i used 1/2 inch rebar, welded on tabs, and bolted it to the 3/4 inch ply. i can put a engine block up on top of it.

Your shelf looks great with the dark carpet. Very cleanly done. I did the exact same thing for my Jeep about three years ago. However, instead of a wooden dowel, I used 3/4 in. square aluminum tubing. Last year, I put a strip of the square aluminum on each side of the top to use as tie-downs. It looks great and they work well as handles when I need to take it out. I posted the pics somewhere else but here they are again.

I'll try to get some underside photos posted. The bar is not permanently mounted yet, I'm trying to figure out the best way to hinge the whole thing and still be able to remove it with ease. I'm looking at using some hydraulic lifters.

I started with a piece of ply wood 3/4" Thick (you can use any size you want) Cut to these specs ------v

You will also need a 1" dowel rod, 1" pipe clamps (4), and carpet of your choice to cover
Cut dowel rod to 45.5"
You will need to use the pieces you cut off to glue to the underside near the back seats to level out the shelf (as the drawing shows)

First of all this is very cool, very clean, and well cool :SOMBRERO:
I want to make my own cargo shelf kinda like yours but with a twist!
I want to cut mine in half and put hinges so that it can fold... do you think that will work? will it support its self with just the back near the seats or do I need to modify and add some support legs? It will also have tie-downs, and LOTS of bedliner! :jester: looking forward to the reply!

Hey timmyb457 i got a question for ya, where do you have your amp mounted for your sub, is it underneath the rear seats if so how did you mount it. I've been thinking about relocating my amp but the only spot i really have thought would work is mounting it to the back of the back seat.

Please anyone else too, let me have your :2cents:

Build a small shelf for the sub to sit on, carpet and anchor well. Make sure the freq, gain and x-overs are close to the front or back for easy adjustments... :2cents:

I have also been watching for a small wire basket the size of my sub top to place over and attach... :2cents: :2cents:

Ill keep thinking and keep yah posted... as long as you do the same for me!

have you checked bed bath and beyond? they usually have a good assortment of "wire baskets" in the bathroom "caddy" or "counter organization" section

another place would be The Container Store

I've seen baskets at both places about the size of a large lexmark scanner/printer

I have it under the rear passenger seat. My amp was the perfect size that it satyed put without moing. I don't have the stock jack there anymore. The seats fold fine and I can get to amp controlls easily
