What is the minimum and maximum distance between the two cross rails for a bike rack? |

Looks like the bike racks can adjust to fit different separation between the cross bars so that shouldn't be a problem. Seems to me that it will still need the yakima cross bars since the front and back bars on the rack are square and round. Unless the "might mount" adaptors from yakima will allow the use of both... That would be really hot then... Couple more questions for you libby 1. How high is the top of the rack? ie. from roof to top of rack 2. what is the space in inches between the bottom rail and the top rail.. most manufactures use either 4 or 6" I think 3. How about some cross rails going the other way from front to back just to help hold the gear... Or maybe for more money you could weld a mesh floor like the ebay guy does... Another thing ...you should consider taking the first rack and building it with libby mounts... I like the second one but maybe the first would be cool too... Just trying to keep you busy.... Mike |

I really like the 2 model you have made. It is exactly what I have been looking for. Post specific specs on size of useable basket also. I'd cant wait to see your finished version. |

Libby's been working on a custom design for me. Basically it's the same rack, minus the rail around the back. I want to use it as a platform for a Yakima basket. I've been doing some reasearch and what I've come up with is Yakima's recommended crossbar spread. I only checked the LoadWarrior and MegaWarrior, both are baskets, the MegaWarrior is bigger. 32" seems to be the optimal spread, it will fit either basket, including the LoadWarrior with an extension. It will not accomodate a MegaWarrior with an extension, but I think the MegaWarrior would look oversized on a Liberty. The LoadWarrior is 44" long x 39" wide x 6.5" tall. The extension add 18" of length bringing it to 62". It weighs 25 pounds. The extension adds 7 pounds bringing the total to 32 pounds. The MegaWarrior is 52" long x 48" wide x 6.5" tall. The extension add 22" of length bringing it to 74". It weighs 45 pounds. Couldn't find a spec on how much the MegaWarrior extension weighs. The LoadWarrior is rated to carry 140 pounds, the MegaWarrior can carry 115 pounds. The LoadWarrior costs $290, the extension is $100. The MegaWarrior costs $390, the extension is $100. Yakima accessories can attach directly to their basket. |
