FYI people,

I apologize for acting the way I did :?: . It's just if you push my buttons, it sets me off. I get irritated very easily. I am a cool person in real life and very easy to get attached to. If you saw me on the street, you wouldn't think I was into Jeeps. I'm not the type of girl that looks to be into Jeeps. Fine, where my CB antenna is mounted in your eyes, it the wrong place to put it. For me, it functions well and looks good to my eyes. I was trying something different for once and I knew I was asking for it when I posted this thread. I've created my own monster :frankie: Oh and I won't leave until whoever has the power to ban people bans me from here. But since I haven't done anything "serious", that won't be the case. Will it? For those who think I wouldn't have the patience to be a cop, you're wrong. Anyways, if a moderator could please block this thread I would appreciate it.

Once again I'm not

That, and are the screws anchored to anything from behind the plastic? If not, I'd be really concerned that with enough movement from the antenna, those screws would easily pull out of the plastic.

I doubt theres enough wind force to rip it out.... it looks fine

If there wasn't an antenna mounted to it the mount would be fine, but antennas do move around due to wind, acceleration, braking and bumps. Firesticks with their extra girth seem even more prone to wind movement. When running without a spring we had one flex around enough to snap it at the mount. Eugene's mount likes to come loose thanks to this movement. Loose screws and movement equal striped holes and we've had to get bigger screws because of it. That's with it mounted in metal, plastic being softer will be worse.

Jaymie,

Well, i can tell you from intimate experience, once you "accidentally" push the grommet through to the otherside

it's a monkey business to get it to reseat

If you can get a piece of a coathanger, sharpened, to press a hole in the outer edge before the lip, then turn it around put the other end through, curl the hanger end into a loop, put your power wire through the loop, crimp it good, then pull through from the engine bay

the method can be a pain, but it will self seal around the wire, grommet material is VERY flexible

I made the mistake of pushing mine through at one point, the coat hanger method is rather reliable, only had push-throughs on 1 out of 20 passes on varying vehicles

and if you have to, two similar coat hangers, with a L bent in the end, will serve to pull the grommet back in if necessary - it's dang near impossible to reach from the engine bay

Maybe I'll get brave and try it again when spring gets here. The only exposed wiring is what you can see when you open the drivers door - less than 6". The wiring doesn't get pinched right now. I don't like the unfinished look to it though.

It can be done Jayme, I have part of my lights ran through that way. I did like Jarhead stated and used a wire clthes hanger worked great but yes if the plug would come out I could see where it would be a bear to reinstall
I have to finish mine someday soon, so hopefully it will work one more time

If you ask a question, you need to be ready for the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. If you do not know anything about what you are doing, it is better to ask than do.

Too many people screw things up and wish they had asked first before jumping into the pot.

Seriously, if you do not know what "grounding" is, you better stop where you are and not take another step until you get assistance from someone that knows or read up fully on CB radios, antennas, and electrical systems for vehicles.
