Working on full under armor right mow out of street signs. In case your wondering a buddy works for the highway department and gets them for me. You will not be able to see anything underneath when I'm done |

I'm just curious how well your skid plates are holding up made out of signs I was thinking about doing it as well? |

Street signs would not hold up if you hit any rocks at all They are made to be lightweight and thin for a reason I used one for a bumper to front skid but that was only to keep mud and sand out of the front skid |

If you are going to use aluminum, ¼" to ⅜" is your best bet. That's plenty strong enough and will take a beating. But for the price, steel is way less expensive, just heavier. |

Must be atleast 3/8" and structural aluminum to offer any protection. Very expensive and even more expensive to repair (even wire/stick for welding is more expensive) once smacked hard enough to make the same product made out of steel laugh. Not my ![]() ![]() |

Not my ![]() ![]() I've used Dural 7075 T6 aluminum (or something like that! Don't remember really!) for skid plates on my classic mini for years and they have held up well. Finally sold them and now they are on another Rally Mini/Ice racer. |

BugginKJ wrote: apples and oranges ................. Huh? Rally cars take more of a beating than most 4X4's see. And rocks hit skid plates harder at 70+ mph than when wheeling off road at 5-10 mph. So really it is apples to apples! Plenty of folks here wheel with 3/8" aluminum skids and they work well. But whatever... |
