I posted this over at Jeep Forum but figured I'd get more responses over here at lost. I know shoulda just came here first but I was at work on an app for that forum... I am going to attempt to Fab some skid plates for the KK. I am planning to mimic the dealer skids as far as bolt hole locations. The Jeep is by no means a Crawler. More of a "get out and explore" kind of DD. I only want skids for that piece of mind. It will after all have to tote me to work on Monday. My questions are: Can I safely go thinner than 3/16"? I was hoping like 1/8" as it would be a bit easier to work with. Also, the gas tank is held in place by a thin metal support/cover . The mopar skid is simply a thicker version of it but costs $198. Would it be possible(and functional) to simply pull off that metal support cover piece and weld on some 1/8"(or 3/16") steel plating to beef it up? Thanks for the help Jeremy |

I built mine out of 1/8 as many manufacturers use 1/8. I've lost nothing but paint trying them out. ![]() |
