The install isn't complete yet but I thought it would be nice to give you guys a couple of teaser pics of the soon to be installed Corbeau Baja XP driver and passenger seats. I was hoping to come up with a creative way to utilize my stock mounting brackets to install the new seats but the dimensions are a little too far off for my limited capabilities... so I'm now waiting on a pair of Corbeau brackets to come in the mail :)

More pics will come once the install is complete, then we get to start working on tying the exo into the inner cage.

Running stock belts for now. I'm working on tying together the Exo with the future inner cage but before I can start the inner cage I have to:

Buy future seats - done :)
Install seats - nope
Start on inner cage (Phase 3) - not yet
Mount 5 Point harnesses to cage - feels like a day dream at this point :(

I'm planning on building the Exo in four seperate phases and getting the new seats was a crucial step before starting Phase 3.

Phase 2 is pending my ARB bumper sale... still working out shipping details but there's a few other people interested so I'm hoping to get it off-loaded pretty soon.

Just in case you're curious, Phase 3 will be to some degree a variation of this...

This is the inner cage my little brother is working on finishing up in his WJ.

Very nice for sure but with out proper head protection or restraints in an accident, serious head injury can happen.

I agree. It's amazing how much you move around in a violent crash, especially with stock 3 point belts.

Too true.. as soon as I can I'll be swappin out the stock belts for the 5 Points.Just gotta get the rest of the stuff out of the way first. Anybody know where I can get some 5 Point harnesses without brand logos on them? I'd like to get some plain harness and get them custom embroidered with my group logo.

It might be easier to have a sleeve made to slip over the racing belt than to embroider the belt.
These guys seem to have many options: http://wescoperformance.stores.yahoo.net/racingbelts.html

Nothing has happened to them yet. They're in decent shape for being 10yrs old at this point and I pretty much disassembled the drivers side beyond belief last weekend when trying to see if the Corbeau's would fit on the stock brackets. I was planning on just putting both front seats on craigslist for like $20 if anybody was interested though.

Sorry guys... got busy working and forgot to give you an update on the exo. Here you go :)

You cant properly fit an inner cage until you have the right seats... so I sprung for the Corbeau XP's

ImageImage

Drivers side is mounted with the Corbeau seat brackets, baja adapter, and double locking tracks. The passenger side is mounted by custom mounts built at Carolina Truggies. The passenger seat sits 2" lower and 1" further back than the drivers seats to give me just a little bit more visibility when I quickly glance out the passenger window.

With the seats mounted we started the inner workings of the cage

Image

A simple "H" for the time being.

Image

The bars tie directly in with the roof rack and will have more tied into it as the build progresses.

Image

The Exo project is on hold for the moment however. In order to start saving some money on gas thus freeing up money for my build, I bought a motorcycle. Its an 83' KZ550 bobber and once I've got all the spare parts it was missing accounted for I will be able to ride it to work and back saving roughly $200 a month :)

Nice seats, nice beginning to your cage and nice bike. Did you bob the kawee and how is it to ride with the struts out back?

I bought the bobber just as it is in the pictures and to be quite honest... I've never had a motorcycle before so I had my brother test ride it before buying. The bike is missing turn signals, mirrors, brakelights, and needs a new clutch before I can get it inspected/registered and actually start learning how to ride. I have a mess of parts on order right now and once they are all in and the bike is legal I will be hitting the streets with it.

The back seat is staying for now. Until I can make my jeep an exclusive trail vehicle I want to keep its full functionality as a 5 seater. Unfortunately, I ended up throwing the front seats away because nobody wanted them :(

MF, I saw the headrest video you're using. I know it's not on-topic, but do you have any more info on that or a thread where you detailed it?

Sorry man I dont. They were my first attempt at a self installed headrest monitor so they weren't exactly what I would call "perfect" and I had them wired up to an video ipod in my dash.
