I want to show you guys some progress that I made since my original post:

http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=74225

I have been patiently waiting to have my rack finished by my builder.
Got a chance to test fit it today and while I love the way it looks and will function, I need to do some adjustments to my bolt spacing and the feet in the rear. This is minor.

So here you go. Enjoy the pictures and feel free to ask any questions.
Yes, if you want one made I might just make you a deal.

Getting ready to set it on.

It is so low that you cant put a hand between the rack and the roof. However it is not touching. You can't get one any lower then this.(By design)

Tube ends will be plugged with polyethylene tube plug. No water intrusion or noise.

Image

I might extend the front of the rack another 2-3" forward. By the way anyone without a light bar, can mount roof lights underneath the swoop of the rack and the roof. = Protected roof lights.

Notice the weld job on those tubes:

This is longest and lowest roof rack I have seen to this date :SOMBRERO:

Alright.. This is all for now.
I will adjust those rear feet and post some more pictures.

Oh and in case you are wondering, I had 2 people 200 & 150lbs jump on this thing while it was sitting on a floor, and there is not much flex what so ever.

:BINGO:

Holy %!%@ that is bad!@%@. Those welds look perfect. Great job. I would pay good money for one, and i'm a cheap guy with a Black widow rack.

I want one also.

1. What are overall dimensions?
2. How is the rear of the rack formed, bent tube or welded at a 90 degree angle?
3. how small is the smallest gap between the rails and roof?

I got my RRO rack to sit about 1/16" off the roof, but it is not as long as yours for sure!

1)OAL: 42.5x72"
2) rear is radius bend. See original post (link) for CAD rendering.
3)It is roughly 1/8"

I did some driving all week with this rack to check for issues and wind noise.
1st we went to a state park on a weekend:

This liberty has some mad parking block crawling skills.... :JEEPIN: :ROTFL:
Image

Honest explanation: I did not notice that I pulled up on the parking block...
Image

I think he wants to be a football player...
Image

Mounted a 2nd spare on the top.
Image

I was looking at some roof tents and my son just got really excited when he saw one.
So, next on a list is a roof tent. Since this platform will hold it.

I think I got all the kinks worked out, if anyone want a similar rack I can make it happen just IM Me.

Next on a list is a Gas/water can carrier.. Hi-Lift Mount on the rack and the roof tent.

Beautiful job. Great looking kid, too!

I'm a poor starving college student at the moment, but might have a little money come August. Can you give a ballpark idea on what this would cost compared to similar factory-made gear? I'm not asking you for a dollar figure, just an idea as to whether it's way more, way less, or about the same.

PS: As a computer major, I admire your CAD skills, too. :D

Hey thanks.
I think you can have one of these built/powder-coated for roughly 350. (I don't think that's excessive.)
