Look up Lehigh Valley Abrasives......much cheaper than MTZ - Goat

I googled that name, it's out of state.
Shipping isn't an option in Alaska.
Every single thing shipped that can't be Primed off of amazon costs double for a lot of items.
My Soft 8 wheels should've been half the price, the cheapest wheel I could get that normally costs like $50/$60 a wheel was $120 at the cheapest local shop I could find.

Operation Stubby Wings has commenced!

I'll be keeping it real simple this time around.
Then it'll be off to the Rock Lizard roof rack clone/hybrid

Ended up spending a few hours in the old welding booth today.
I still have access because I'm also taking a 7 month course in HVAC.
Then it's down to Seattle for a 7 month commercial diving course.

Anywho I got down to business and started using the cardboard mock up I had made to cut up a bunch scrap 1/4" steel to make the wings.

All the pieces have been ground down to bare metal, edges are smoothed out.
The passenger side is tacked up.

You ever try using foam board for mock ups? You can get it in 3/16-3/8" and is soooo much easier to work with than cardboard because it's so light and stays nice and straight..

Here's a tacked together portion of the passenger side wing.

Needs a little more fitment changes, however it's strong! 1/4" steel!

Had a little snow this morning

Waiting on return lable for the 4.7L throttle body off a Dodge 1500 I have to send it back and get a new one.

Image

Made progress on the wings for my stubby.

Adding a few more gussets, drilling mounting holes and painting and it's done.

Photos from several weeks ago.
I was at school building my wings and there were no parking spots so I made my own.

Other things I've done was to send back my broken during shipping 4.7L throttle body.
And order another one.

More photos of the trailer as it sits.
FYI, it's a Ben Hur design and the interior bed portion measures 8' long X just under 4' wide.

And what it used to look like:Image

Used some dupli color spray on bed liner and the final results were lackluster at best.
I'll do touch ups and enjoy the season with it as is but it will be repainted down the road.

Image

Time to mount the rack and wire the light bar in.
In order to use bolts better than the flimsy stock rails.
I bought grade 8 hardware in the form of 3/8" 2" long bolts with lock washers and nylon lock nuts. You have to drill out the nutserts completely and then clean them up with a step bit or something.

I also cut 8 squares out of 3/16" aluminum.

From the top down starting outside the vehicle I went with.

1/4" mounting plates
1/16" rubber gaskets alongside the entire contact area on the roof.
Drill out the nutserts, then step bit it out a tad.
Headliner down and bolt holes "mostly" visible.
3/16" aluminum plates acting as huge washers to distribute weight better.
Lock washers
Nylon lock nuts.

Assemble all loosely then marine grade boat seal everything in the typical overkill fashion.
Final step, five hours in was to torque down and reassemble the interior.
Make sure to use blue loc tite on the seat belt bolts as all four need to come down.

Big shout out to my friends Chris and Randy for helping me tear the interior apart and get the rack up and wiring and sealing the light bar.

I haven't added my caps on for the end of the tubing but I will Image

Cruised around the day after at Hatcher Pass, too much snow to do much other than sight see and cook some velveeta and reindeer sausage on the camp stove.

The following day I was able to go out and test my ARB pre filter.
Safe to say it works...

It honestly wasn't even that dusty and it pulled this out of thin air.
I dumped it on the hood to look at it, it's all super fine like talcom powder.

Keep us updated on how well that RTT works in all elements White! I've been eyeballing that model for a while but have yet to pull the trigger due to the mixed reviews I have seen.

Time to start grinding calipers down to make the 15x8 5.5" backspaced tj wheels fit.
I have 1" wheel spacers I'll be using.

They'll only sit another .5" out from where they are currently with the 15x7 4" backspaced soft 8's.

It'll help with the 32x11.5 or 33x10.5's I decide to put on next with a 4.5/5" lift or so.
Fromt Bumper I built weighs 110 pounds approx (1/4" steel), with winch and lights I'm coming up closer to 200.

Rear bumpers going to be heavy as well. 1/4" mounting brackets and likely all 3/16 plate with swing out for two 5 gallon jugs (fuel / water )
