To all you fabricating gurus, can an OEM Xterra roof rail/rack sytem be made to fit on top of the KJ? |

This was my idea that kinda goes along with that: I want a rack that is very low profile and hugs the curvature of the roof, so that I can still fit everywhere I can with my stock rails and cross bars (most importantly my garage!!) |

This is something I've been looking into, as well. I can only have another 4 inches above my stock rails at most and still fit in my garage, and I don't think any roof rack mounted on the aftermarket crossbars would fit under that limitation. I've been looking into somehow mounting a roof rack in between the stock bars. |

When I get my welder this summer I could probably do something. |

I did that, it works great. I have the Yakima basketcase mounted directly to the siderails using pipe clamps. Not only does it not extend above the thule rails, it doesn't even take up any space on the thule rails, so I can still put the normal thule racks on above it (bike rack, ski rack, etc), or throw boxes, furniture, plywood, etc on the roof without the basket being in the way. |

Hmm, don't know about the Xterra rack - I have a buddy with an '02 X and I've looked at it quite a bit to see if I could do something for mine. I think you'd wind up havning to drill into the roof to make it work. Pixeldzn, are you designing yours to fit in between the existing rails or replace them all togther? |

Pixeldzn, are you designing yours to fit in between the existing rails or replace them all togther? Replacing the rails all together. This thing is gonna HUG the roof- say 1-2 inches above it max. Still looking for a fabricator without much success. |
