Since the KJ in the last year, more so in the past 3 months, has had quite a transformation i thought I'd put a build thread here. Started with a few bolt ons then ..... well ...... KJWildman!
Installed my old roof rack and front flat fenders first, along with a Rock Lizard Komodo Dragon Front Bumper and Badlands 12k winch.

It was at this point that I knew something had to change! 33's just weren't big enough! I need 35's!

So ..... a local fellow Glass City Crawlers club member is a fabricator/welder for a day job and builds Jeeps out of his shop behind his house.
Since the first of March, he has been working on it on the side. I had collected a whole bunch of parts already so we started with a JBA truss for the 8.25. Removed the frame brackets from the JBA long arms. Plated the frame and added Barnes4wd 4 link brackets. We used 1-1/4" Enduro joints for the links.

Ok, so now we start having fun! I mounted up Interco Trxus 35x12.50-15 tires on some Aero Racing steel beadlocks. Yes beadlocks are a PIA! Torque 36 bolts to 10# then 15# then 20#. By the time you get around to the last bolt the first one is loose! About 3-4 times around each time.

Well ... in the parts I had collected over the last few years were Yukon 4.88s and ARB air locker! Since the front D30S already had 4.88s and DTT I got a new bearing kit and they went in along with the Yukon chromoly axles.

I knew I needed rock rails so I took a chance and got some RRO Super Sliders. I actually got them in less than 2 weeks! However ...... my builder didn't like the mounting. Since my "framerails" were already plated, he cut their mounts completely off and used 2x2x1/4 square tube and welded them straight to the frame. Their not bending and aren't coming off without a torch! LOL!

Up front he changed valve cover gaskets and yes I bought a K&N Intake and filter. We (yes i helped!) changed out the radiator to an all aluminum 3 core, changed the alternator out to a 160a unit and added the Big 7 cable upgrade from JeepCables.com.

After the 4-link was in and axle moved back 1-1/2", the driveshaft wasn't up to the job. I ordered a 231J SYE and it was installed. Then we ordered a new Tom Woods driveshaft afterwards with the new measurements.

At the height I'd like to keep it at, around 3.5", there needed to be some room made for the tires. We made room! The wheelwells have now been trimmed like Thunderstruck was 10 years ago. Only I went further. The rear of the front wheelwells have been moved back 4". That actually forced us to move both footwells into the compartment 2". The floors were reinforced after with 16ga sheet metal. The rear had major trimming also.ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Today he started taking the seats out and getting the dash ready for the 2 din Pioneer AVIC. Getting ready for some interior mods now.
At home I'm working on tube doors for it now. I should be done with them this week and they will be off to the powder coat guy.ImageImage

It was fun reading through your posts and watching the development of your build, KJWildman!

Just two questions: Was this the same Jeep that got your “never ending V8 swap” several years back? Or do you own two KJ’s?

Awesome Liberty by the way!! :JEEPIN:

I asked in a previous thread....the old Jeep was called Thunderstruck and is a different jeep from the one in this build.

This new Jeep is turning out to be pretty killer.

What he said ^^^^

Actually have 3 if you include the parts KJ sitting out beside the garage! LOL!
Here's is Thunderstruck, still sitting at the moment feeling neglected and abandoned! I actually cleaned up around it and I'm using it as the guinea pig for the tube doors at the moment. Image

More lights, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, f & r Corbeau seats, harness bar and harnesses, Rotopax, 110v inverter, A-Pillar gauges, Overland Vehicle Systems Nomadic 270 awning, slide-out cooktop, Joolca hot water heater/pump, tube doors ... Here's an update on the tube doors. Had to add a piece of 1" x 1-1/2" tube to the hinge side. My length was off exactly 1". Got that done and figured out the mounting for the latch. ImageImageImageImage
