I almost have her talked into new tires because I am slipping around a lot today on the stock tires. It's wierd though because I get great traction on the stock tires on my 2007 Liberty. I wonder if it's because their slightly wider and taller on the renegade.
Also the other day I went to check out the General Grabber AT2's and the guy said he was big into off-roading and he hadn't heard anything good about them and said they were crappy tires that would wear out in less than a year. But everyone around here has said great things about them so now I'm not sure what tires I want to get. I really don't want to spend 800 dollars right now on tires.

My wife may notice that it's taller when they're sitting side by side in the driveway. But if she didn't, she would notice all the money gone out of the bank account.

the Grabber AT2's aren't TERRIBLE. there are worse tires you can buy...but I think the big reason so many people here like them is they're going from a crappy stock Wrangler SR-A or ST to it, and a conestoga wagon wheel would be better than the SR-A's or ST's IMO.

Toyo AT's, Kumho AT's, Nitto I think has an AT in KJ-friendly sizes...and they're all better than the Grabber AT2 IMO. you don't have to spend a big pile of money to get decent rubber. Bridgestone Dueler AT 693's are good...I've had 'em on a rig, and they wore forever, did great in the snow, and looked sweet...and they were CHEAP!:)

I really like your KJ, by the way...the black '02-4 Rennies, any '05-6 Rennie, and the '02-4 Limiteds in bright red always do it for me:D

Thanks. The guy at the store was showing me the Toyo AT's. He said he liked them alot and they were getting more popular. He was also telling me to try Westerncraft, I think it was. Tire rack has the Dueler 693's for 105 a piece.

was it a a Town Fair Tire?
i went over to a Town Fair Tire and the guy pitched me Toyo A/T's. i said that i read reviews on tirerack and they came up short. . he personally vouched for them, he said i should read reviews on a couple of other websites since TR.com biased... and i still read mostly poor reviews of them. they wanted just over $800 for them mounted and balanced that was including "cool guy" 10%discount. that price is way off and IMO they are Town Fairs "go to" high profit margin tire for LT applications
then i went to a Firestone dealer and the guy pitched me dueler a/t's for $860. i had a local shop quote me $795 mounted / balanced for BFG All Terrains (all quotes in 235 70R16). i ended up getting some "take-off" wrangler st's for free. so i got a little more time to decide what to buy when i get real tires. i say all that to say this... shop around my friend

Yeah, it was Town Fair Tire in Manchester. I don't even remember what price he quoted me. But I'm definitely still shopping around and trying to decide what tire I want and what size. My wife's brother works at Sullivan Tire in Framingham but we don't even get great deals through them.

800 for tires,   I need to go back into the tire business......I paid 420 for 4 Kumho ATs , with full Road hazard, mounted, balanced, new valves, free rotation ( although I would never let them do it) etc etc out the door, late on a Saturday afternoon, and I complained about that until they gave me a 50% discount on my next alignment!

Are those other tires that much better, double the price ??

Tom

X2.

Just put some Kumhos KL78's (the AT's) on the misses 02 and i love em. That is what is going on my 07 with the AEV bridgers as soon as the wallet re-inflates a little. Had Kumho's KL78's on my 85, 95 and 96 cherokees and LOVED htem. Best tire I ever owned. NEVER got stuck, great handleing, long running and all that crap...

Wifes 245/70R16's were 117.00 each with mounting balancing stems and road hazard... all five with the disposal fee (Damned Tree Huggers) and an alignment was 700.00 +
