am i missing something? it seems to me like my back seats fold down almost that flat without the extra boards... maybe you have a defect? or maybe the 06's were different.

This is the one area my wife's Escape is better than the KJ, her back seats fold flat. All I'd need is an air mattress and I could sleep in hers.

Here's a tip if you don't have a sunroof. When you go to bed lean your head over to the side window and you can look up and see the stars above you. Thanks to the KJs curved side its almost like having a sunroof but without one.

Okay, I tried out the sleeping area over the weekend and it worked great! The window screen I made also was a success so I need to make a second one for the other side of the jeep. I did learn I need to reduce the size of my food container and cooler, but other than that I think I have a setup the works pretty well.

I still need to figure out a way to make something to get dress in instead of trying to get dressed inside the KJ, but I do have a few ideas for that.

True, I do have a bag to go up there too to help with waterproofing.

I made a window screen to hook to the door so I could roll down the window when it got hot out and I have a 12v fan I clipped on to the OS handle so I could draw the air in.

I'm pretty sure we could sleep in our KK without any work - just a roll out foamy or something. The seats fold totally flat with the rear "trunk" (still nto sure what to call that area).

Actually.... might try that camping this next few months...

After I get back from Tanzania we need to get together, I have a dressing room/ enclosed porch/shower stall/ bathroom area/ what ever designed we just need to fine tune a few things, would be free standing but you would back up to it at night with wings up over and up the sides of the KJ.
would be about 5X7 or 5X8 enough so you could leave the rear door open if you wanted to at night ( unless you are afraid someone may crawl in with ya)!

Sounds good Tom, you have a safe trip and tell the wife I said hi!

If you bring back a cutie or two with you then I'd have no problem if someone crawled in with me!!

Here's what I came up with to cover my windows while I'm sleeping.

It's a little wider than I need but I just tuck it in the door as I shut it.
