ok ok ,,,,before people starts shouting, here is a correct version in inch....
Image

still same result for the 215-85 R16: 0.7 inch higher but only 0.2 inch more offest, which allows to actually turn the wheels without rubbing...and still think that the overall rig must drive slanted the day of strong lateral winds.... :ROTFL:

I hate to mention this - however the '215' in 215/85/16 or the '245' in 245/75/16 is not the tread width - it is the section width - thats the widest part - about the center of the tire.
More companies are starting to list tread width - that's what you need in your calculation and it can vary 1/2" or more for the same section width.

I've had 3 different 245/75/16's - one cleared the pinch weld no problem, one occasional rubbed, one constantly rubbed(chewed through the liner)- same section width - different treads.

Interesting, i did not know this.
So it means that the "245" in 245-75R16 would represent the tire's section which could be rather rounded or straight depending on the stiffness of the tire and also on its pressure.
If it is , this max width would change with the tire pressure no ? so i am a bit surprised that manufacturers don't state at what pressure the 254 is measured...

Basically i agree with you, the "offset" I calculated the best measure of the "rubbing" effect . Too bad , i was quite proud to remember the Pythagore formulae... :jester:
But at least the table is correct for the high of the tire (=car clearance)

you can also check it online : http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direc ... reMath.jsp

Cheers !

Fairly sure the manufacturer lists a specific rim width and pressure for the measurement to be accurate

They list true hieght on specific rim size but not psi used but they use max rated psi for that tire.

After first spending all my lift kit fund on fixing my Jeep, then spending it on my girlfriends birthday present, I'm now up to $315 towards my lift. Sometime soon we'll hopefully see how 215/85s look on a OME lifted KJ.
