I got my roof rack set-up pretty much finished. I recently got 4 used Hella 500 driving lights mounted to it. 100w bulbs and thicker-gauge wire are next. My rooftop set-up is turning out to be my cheapest mod so far. I got the ~$400 Garvin Wilderness Offroad 6" series rack for $20 locally and the lights used from a friend for $70. All the hardware for mounting the rack to the roof and the axe, shovel, and lights to the rack I got at Home Depot, costing no more than $30. Daytime:
Night shots: Just the headlights, fogs
The Hellas light up the hood real well. I'm gonna fab up some sort of light-shield. Other than that, I really like the driving beam pattern, it covers a lot of area and goes pretty far depending how you point it. On another note, I'm ready to CAMP! I cut up some wood to make a floor for the rack because I have a two person tent that fits up there (rack dimensions: 80x48x6"). I didn't expect it to work out so well, but I set it all up in the driveway and found the most difficult thing is getting into the tent without a ladder |

That looks great. The size of the rack looks like it will definitely be usable. Interesting diamond plate mod on the front too |

Are you serious? or did you mean $200? I dig the 72" basket they make too. Do you think it could it be mounted a little further back to clear the Renegade lightbar AND clear the lift glass? |

No, I'm serious. $20 from a past teacher who's Mitsubishi Montero took a dive for the worse. He knew I would love the rack, but didn't want to give to me for free. It was a steal, I know...but I'm thankful. I'm not sure how exactly the renegade lights look on top of the roof, but a measuring tape should help you. My 80" rack goes from the front of the roof all the way to the back of it. |
