Think that move put a bit too much stress on it?
Oh, I forgot to mention. Throw a completely hosed rear end into the list of damage from LA4x4 Expo.
I've been getting a bit of noise from the back of the Jeep since then, figured it was just the hole in my exhaust getting bigger. On my Birthday the Wife and I are driving back from dinner and suddenly it gets louder. I'm almost home so I figure I'll figure it out there. I stop at a stop sign and suddenly hear "CRASH SCRAPE SCREEEEEEEEEEECH!" I shut off the Jeep and climb out to find the drive shaft separated from the rear axle and 75W140 pouring all over the road. Upon closer inspection the rear yoke had actually unthreaded itself from the pinion. As I'm sitting at a stop sign blocking traffic I figure I'l put it in 4wd and use the front wheels to drag myself to a parking lot. So I throw it in 4Full and give it some gas, but find I'm going nowhere; the rear axle had seized completely.
Waited 3 hours for a tow truck, then ended up having to leave it in the IHOP parking lot overnight (due to miscommunication of coverage between USAA and the rep at their roadside subcontractor) and getting Jeep to pick it up in the morning.
Turns out the pinion nut came off causing the pinion gear to "jiggle" a bit inside the housing and tear the insides up. Eventually the axle seized and with the driveshaft still trying to turn it had no choice but to spin off.
Jeep ended replacing all of the internals, the differential itself, the ring and pinion set, all the bearings, etc. under the 7/70 power train warranty so it only cost me $100, but it did spend a week and a half at the dealer because of parts on national backorder.
