I can never leave well enough alone, so Mama's Jeep grew up over the month. We got a set of Rubicon wheels and tires. We decided to sell the tires and put BFG KOs on instead. It's also got the Daystar 2.5" spacer lift for now.

What size are the BFGs? I considered doing the same, but 245/75/16 BFGs are not approved for mounting on an 8" rim...

Thanks. Yeah, it will probably stay that way for the most part. The Liberty is our primary trip vehicle and will do most of its off-roading a the beach. Mine's the one we beat on.



They are 245/75/16. I'm not sure who "approves" them, but Discount Tire didn't have a problem mounting them for us.

So far we're real happy with the setup. The tires ride great, but I knew they would from running the KOs in the past. I'd like to swap over to a full spring lift whenever they come out with one for the CRD, but for now the spacer lift will do.

The tire manufacturers "approve" their tires for certain rim widths. You can check out BFGs specs for the KO here...http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/assets/pdf/all_terrain_ta_kd.pdf

The second page shows up to a 7.5" rim. I don't know if that's a concern or not, but I'd probably have a chat with Discount Tire just to be sure everything is good. The main issue would be loosing a bead.

Personally I'm not gonna sweat a half inch. I suspect they make those recommendations based on some legal wiggle room, but everyone's got to make their own call on that.

At this point they've got a good tread pattern at 40 psi. The tread width exceeds the rim width and they feel very stable. I'll keep you all posted if we see issues.

I though you go a new set of MTRs? Looking for a street set to swap out or something? Just curious.

I really like the Rubi wheels and was kicking around the idea of putting some ATs on them for daily driving. Then I'd get some steels and put the MTRs on those for wheeling. Unfortunately, the MTR is the only 245/75/16 tire that is approved for an 8" rim (at least that I've found).

I think that's one of the best "mods" I've done with my TJ. I've got a set of BFGs that I run on the street, then a set of Swampers on beadlocks that I run off road.

I commute 70 miles round trip every day, so I was tired of throwing weights and needing the tires balanced every time I'd go off road. Now I get home, swap the wheels and tires and I'm set.

Yep, I've got two sets right now. My original limited wheels with Revos and the Rubi rims and MTRs. I just hate to think how those Rubi rims will look in a year...
