Post subject:  My 2002 KJ (Lifted!)

Hey guys. Been around awhile and learned alot about KJ's since I bought my 2002 in June of this year. With the help of my brother, I finally got my lift in a few weeks ago and thought I'd share a pic.

Looks great! How much trimming did you have to do to fit those tires under it?

Just the pinch welds. Cut away the plastic, hammered over the weld then covered the gaping hole in the plastic with new plastic. Then we sealed it up with black RTV. So far, it's holding up well. No rubbing or adverse effects of any kind.

you got some wheel spacers on there? they sure stick out quite a bit. Looks good

No spacers - just a 3.75" backspacing.

That is one tough looking KJ. My 245/70s are envious of your tires.

Spacers? Who needs spacers the 3.75" backspacing did a heck of a job. Looks great.

Will those even stuff in the fenders at full flex without ripping off the fender flares?

yeah that is what I am thinking
I know that nolakj had 30X9.5's on those same rims with that lift and the tires got shreded the first trip off road
from rubbing on the sharp edge inside the rear wheel wells
those tires are taller and wider
I hope he has some bump stop spacers in there

no way. he will be flareless soon enough and maybe even as bad as getting the tires slashed up by the fenders wells. there's no way those can stuff...he needs huge stops to prevent that, and then won't he be restricting alot of articulation?? those tires will get thrashed by the wells.

I don't know what kind of driving you guys do (jumps?) but I've been off road a half-dozen times or so (only had the lift on a month) and my flares are still intact. Yeah, there's contact. Big deal. I put the lift and 31's on to gain clearance. I don't need alot of articulation, but it's there if I do. I don't do rocks or difficult trails. This is my DD.

"Tires slashed up by the fender wells"?? I don't know about you, but my fender wells are smooth plastic. I did a little thing called the pinch weld mod (I guess you guys never heard of it), which eliminated the only edge to speak of under there that might have "slashed up" my tires.

Bottom line: It works fine and I don't understand how someone I've never met can tell another person how my Jeep behaves offroad. Must be based on "experience".

I have the same rim and tire combo and I did extend the rear bumpstops to prevent just that because they will not stuff inside the well. I like the look with the small backspacing though but you do loose a bit of upper travel as far as articulation. Nice jeep man but if you do plan on wheelin hard just put some longer bumpstops in.

Well look how much your tires stick out from the fender flares, how do you expect them to stuff inside the fenders on the rear without hitting them? This is why it was mentioned. I dont see why you are getting so offensive about it. Some are speaking from experience on this, its happend before, more then once. So really they are trying to do you a favor by pointing this out before you do have a costy repair at hand.
