Post subject:  long needed pictures
guys i was so busy with school last semester that i kind of lost touch with this forum and even my jeep,poor lil thing missed me...

so anyways i havent ever posted pics of it and its definitly a new whip from when i got it till now. i just got the rims on it today as a present from my parents for x-mas.. but if you guys have any questions about it dont hesitate to ask!

well im assuming the tire weights are the silver tab looking things on there.. which is wierd youd bring that up because ive never seen those on my jeep until i got these rims on it today.. but whats even wierder to me is that the weight is only on the outside of 3, on the front driver side tire i dont see one..

is this a bad thing that they are on the outside?

no not a bad thing if there all balanced correctly. Just paint them black so they blend in im sure alittle masking and some spray paint would all that you need, dont put to much on though.

its only a bad thing if you feel a serious vibration on that side due to no weight on the rim.

im actually suprised that the tire is balanced enough without a weight.


i always have weights put on the inside of the rim, purely asthetic.

nice lookin kj, no doubt.

To properly balance a tire you HAVE to put them on the inside and outside, so if you see tham just know that they are balanced correctly

Yes to properly balance a tire you need to do a dynamic or spin balance. What this does is basically splits the tire down the middle of the tread and balances each half. Thats why sometimes you can look at a spun balanced tire and weights will be in different places front to rear due to balancing each side.

With a staic balance you only balance one side of the tire to the opposite side, for example the tire wheel combination is 4 oz. heavier on one side than the other so you put 4 oz opposite of the heavy spot.

yup and you want a dynamic balance if you can get it
problem I have is that with the LTB's I needed like
10-14 OZ of weight ,that is almost a full POUND out on 1 tire
now granted they were used and the worst one was missing a small chunk on one lug but not a pounds worth of rubber

I tell you these things are not for the faint of heart
I just drove it after letting it sit for 2 weeks and I had some mad crazy flat spots

I noticed that. And the place that did used the sticky ones and Ive had a heck of a time getting them off! :lol: :)

I also always get them put on the inside. Ruins the look and also causes corrosion. Ive never had a problem with vibrations. :)

maybe you never drive fast enough to feel the vibrations :wink: Plus as far as looks Ive always wanted mine to ride better than have the looks, plus at 90 MPH no one can tell anyways... :wink: But anyways look it up sometime about the proper way to balance a tire.

Try running some 33's on the front that are not balanced. Even off by 2oz. will give you a heck of a wobble above 55 mph.

ive never had any wobble issues with any tire ive had on the kj, and i only have weights on the inside.

and i drive fast fairly often. toll roads baby !

I just had my Grabbers remounted and I asked about the beads. The tire shop guy said he could do it for me, but recommended not because of the size of the tire. He added that the beads are usually used for larger tires, like 33" or larger. This is because smaller vehicles accelerate faster and the beads don't get a chance to disperse fast enough. Once you get up to speed, he said, they settle in and the balancing would be fine. But for city driving and stop and go acceleration the balancing would more or less be off continuously. Does this sound reasonable? I don't know enough about tire balancing to have an informed opinion...
