But then my hood would be flat black and the rest would be gloss black. :?

Eastwood is the only place to get paint & body supplies. I just spent some coin there.

Okay tom, I am going to attempt this task myself. So how did you measure for the holes? I'm not using the drip pans, but I was thinking of using the screens. Maybe Gorilla glue the screens to the underside (since the screens screw into the drip pans)? Anyway, the louvers have the plastic molded screw channels (or whatever) but I can't figure out how I will screw them into the hood? How did you do it?

I prepped & painted them using Eastwood OEM style bumper / moulding paint, and painted the screens underhood hi-temp black.

I made a cardboard template of the bottom including where the screws would go then laid that out on the tape on the hood. Had to trim a little afterwards but wemt pretty good. I sent the template to "some guy  " out your way with one of those great JBA 4 inch lifts
I also not only screwed mine down but used black roof cement as well ( never coming off! ) Had to use some washers to build up under the hood but it works. I didn't use the screens

I was also thinking what if I use the screens as my template and then "aim" the drill 6 times (each) to screw the louvers into the sheetmetal?

But your method sounds like it might be a good way to go too. I was thinking I would use adhesive too.

- Thanks.

I just checked ebay and craigslist and found nothing.
I found a few but no mounting points. they're all either weld in ones or stick on ones.

I would get the weld in ones but i don't want to be welding on my hood and have to repaint it.
And anyways, I still haven't learned to tig and I don't want to mig on my hood.

very difficult to weld that thin of metal solid around a louver.. that's just asking for warping :)

I guess I should of said I used a combination of screen and the louver itself as a pattern. But the cardboard worked pretty good. Also I was able to mark it out on the tape a couple of different ways before I actually started to cut as well to get just that "right look"    Oh I also put a cover (old welding jacket) over the engine so I would have any metal cuttings fall down into the engine.

I'm working on the templates. I went to my local Ace Hardware and bought a cartridge of Rutland Hi-Temp Stove & Gasket Cement (black). I'm thinking I will either use this or Permetex Black RTV to adhire the screens to the backside of the louvers.

It's getting late in the afternoon and don't feel much like cutting into the hood tonight.

One more question, do you think the hi-temp gasket cement would do the job properly without using screws thru the hood?

Marty ( Rock Lizard ) had a set glued on with roof cement for several years on a Cherokee he told me when I was doing mine. I think one did finally fly off but it was several years before it did

I never thought I would say this, but I am debating this mod too. Question, has anyone done any testing to find out how much it cools off your engine compartment? Before and after wards or is it mostly for looks?

I have never done an actual temp test, but I know when I was down in Vegas and we ran Potato Ridge, I put my hand over the louvers and the heat coming out was intense. They work for sure.

Also, the guy that is building my SFA had a TJ with a turbo on it. He installed a louver directly over the turbo and he said the temp decrease was dramatic, but I can't remember the numbers he told since it was a while back.

They're in.

The first (RH side) was a PITA. The second one (LH side) went much smoother.

I'm planning on having my hood repainted (tail gate door too), and I'm thinking I will have the louvers sanded and painted Jeep black to match.
