Not my favorite either. Just trying to throw a few more ideas out there.

Here's another one about an XJ using a Cowl Induction hood. He claims that the hot air exits the rear at slow (4x4) speeds and draws cool air in at higher speeds, as Troy mentioned.

http://go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoBonnet.htm

This one shows a variety of vents used on XJ's. It includes the part numbers for the Pontiac vents and a source to get them from. Looks like the prices have gone up, though:

Looks like they are what is used on big rigs.

First vent is for on the sleeper of a large car, not the hood or at least I have never seen them there

The site where I found the pics showed photos of both the sleeper and the hood. But, I agree with you that they seem more apropriate for the sleeper.

I also found a similar vent, in aluminum, on a trailer supply site in their horse trailer section for about $35 a piece.

personally i like the heat in my motor compartment... i have never had an over heating problem.. plus i wrap hotdogs in foils and lay them on the motor on the drive to the trails.. and during the trail ride... at lunch time they are PERFECT for eating! especially in the colder months.

Definitely looking at doing this once I get settled after my move. Not that I've ever had a problem with engine heat during the summer but now that I'm about to turn 100k on the odo I figure every little bit of help I can give the engine is a good thing 8)

I have no complaints about mine, I love them plus they help a little to melt the ice off the windshield in the winter and no problems with water getting in or anything.

Great mod for only $50 and if you have the guts to cut two big holes in your hood.

Cost big money to do that directly, plus you got to add the cost of repainting the hood.

sure but do you want to take all of the bracing out of the hood punch them in and reinstall. Also it works great on a 40 Ford but the metal on a KJ hood is so thin afraid the press would punch clear through.  And yes I thought about it since I have punched in louvers before and a buddy of mine has the setup but................

How difficult is it to install those hood louvers? I imagine the measurements are pretty critical?

I taped my hood off and then put the louvers up and looked at two or three different placements

THEN

started drilling !!!
Did try and locate them as near above each side of the engine as possible, not hard at all but then I like to drill and cut big holes!
