Yesterday I got around to painting my flares and bumpers using Krylon Fusion Black. Still need to paint the center trim. Here are the results: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I've thought about doing this since I bought my KJ. I think now you may have convinced me. |

I think now you may have convinced me. Thanks for all the compliments. It wasn't too hard. You'll need about 2 cans of Krylon Fusion (color of your choice), prep cleaner, newspaper and masking tape. Preparation is key. I took most of my time masking off the body. |

Didn't like the look of the dull gray fender flares. Its been on my "to-do" list for a long time, and just decided to finally do it this week. |

Yep, I like it. Some times I wish my flares were black but other times I like them as they are. |

I've recently been tipped that black leather dye works really really well. I think I'm gonna give it a try. The paint job there looks great. I'm curious to see how it holds up because people have gotten such mixed results with painting the plastic. |

i dont have any photos, but its a very common method with VW guys. the older GTIs and such had black plastic stuff that faded out real bad, so a ton of them use it. A friend of mine thats all about VWs gave me the suggestion. I would search around some VW forums for pics. I'm going to, but I just heard about this on Saturday and havent had a chance to look yet. |

i found this about the kiwi: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2493675&page=1 please note in that thread when they talk about the paint being horrible, they're NOT talking about krylon fusion that jeepkj02 used. sorry if this is a hijack! just trying to help anyone with questions about black fenders! .... maybe its not a hijack if i add in: "hey, the pics look really good. nice job with the paint!" ![]() and just for good measure: http://www.krylon.com/products/fusion_for_plastic/ |

I still haven't done the center trim, maybe I'll do it with the leather dye. |

For dying plastic, you want to have HOT water, mix in the dye, and lay the part into the water. I'm sure Tom has a still we could use ![]() |
