| Post subject: | Rear Spare Tire Deleted ! |
Hello Guys ! I decided to Do somthing different with the Jeep .... Take the Spare tire and Mounting brackets off and install a Rear View Camera !
Of course I couldn't leave the Holes there.....
Tell me what you guys think ! I have plans to fill in the rear bumper so it doesn't have a dimple in it for the spare tire and I'll be fabricating a custom mount for the spare tire using the roof rack ! I just wanted to do somthing out of the ordinary, Thanks, Troy. |

I voted yes although I probably won't do it myself I think it looks good without the tire! The camera is cool, although to me it detracts a bit from the nice clean look of the rear door. Good job on it though! Dave |

It's In the Rear View Mirror I have a Pic of it it's kinda confusing when you take it up that close but... here it is.
It's Made by XOVision, It works GREAT ! The Main reason I took off the spare and added a camera is my Wife Did this to the jeep.....
With a Trashcan ! I figure it's the easiest way to fix the problem and do some custom work at the same time Troy. |

I agree, It's Synonomus with jeep, only the Cherokee diferentiated from the rest.. and I guess In Australia My Liberty would be a Cherokee "Sport" LOL |

I think it looks great! I have thought many times about removing the tire from there...just not sure where to put it and if I did put it on the roof I would not be able to pull into the garage... As for not looking like a jeep, there are several jeeps without rear tires. More power to you Troy! Keep up the good work!!! |

I am against mounting spares on the roof, I tired it on my grand and I could really feel the difference. It definately makes them feel more top heavy. I love the look of the back of your Jeep though. Very nice work you did there. I would do something like that if I could fit the spare some how in the back. |

Hmm... I'll Post Up pictures of the Roof Rack Tire Mount When It's done, I think there are ways to correct the top heavy feeling, I'll let you guys know if it happens in the liberty. I know that the G. Cherokee has ALOT Softer Suspension than the liberty (Stock) I have the Stiffest springs available I believe ?? Hijacker lifts are not known for riding that nice, Tho I have no problem with the way mine rides. The next thing to do to this thing is a spacer lift for about 2 more inches of ground clearence and as well as replacing the upper control arms they already hit the springs if I flex the suspension all the way and Believe me I have ! I OFF-ROAD MY 2WD BABY ! I went with my friends down By Nellis Air Force Base They have a "Recreational Area" about 2 mikes after the base and I went in the dunes And EVERYTHING was fine !! I was So excited untill we got into some REALLY Deep stuff, then my friend hooked a tow strap to me and pulled me thru. Then We went to the rocky area and I ended up scuffing my tires (My Liberty has a Wider track than my friends G. Cherokee) But I went Everywhere he did, My lil' 2WD suprizes me everytime I push her. I have pictures somewhere (I'll post them in another section) Thanks for the Comments guys ! They Are appreciated, I'd love to meet up with some of you So-Cal guys and go on a run (Don't worry I'll bring the Tow Straps ! Troy. |

that and here in KS we get a lot of wind and it will kill your mpg, thats why Im fabbing a tire carrier that bolts on ot my rear shackle mounts |

the dark red is the spindle and the other red will be somthing like 2x3x1/8" tubing and where it connects to my hitch Im going to weld on a hitch reciever and the tire carrier will stick in there and I will just have a hitch pin holding it on, that way if I need to remove it i can really quick and it will be out of the way I can still open the rear window |

It looks great. I took mine off (still have the four holes, but I installed 4 painted bolts there) and relocated the spare inside the cargo bay. I also have the rear seats taken out so the spare is standing up on the pass side, rear. Your rearview camera is a great idea for tight spots... |

Looks good. I was thinking of a installing a camera but in the front so you can see all those boulders and obstacles better. Perhaps have a camera in the front and the rear with a switching monitor. Now that would be cool |

The Camera Is Not wireless I ran the wiring through the stock Gromet in the door The monitor has the ability to switch from 2 cameras so a front camera is in the works !! It would have helped when I was off roading in the rocks and tight spots in Nevada. I don't think it would kill your MPG if you made the tire rack like what comes on a nissan xterra Like this....
That's my plan with the tire rack, I get decent MPG out of the jeep I fill it up every 375 - 400 miles as it is. Troy. |

Totally not what I expected...then again I didn't realize you had a aftermarket(post production perhaps) tow hitch. |
