Post subject: | LOST in Moab!!! (lots of pics) |
Just got back from an awesome weekend in Moab... JL Rockies decided to show up, as did my girlfriend... and we proceeded to enjoy some gorgeous weather, argue about peanut butter sandwiches, fight with CB radios, and wheel the KJ's on some cool trails. We left the mountains of Durango behind and decided to drive through Ouray and Silverton en route to Moab. The Ouray Ice Park is in the middle of the prime season So we carried on with our Americanos and cookies and finally made it to Moab. The next morning the wheeling started.... We were originally planning on hitting the White Rim trail but we ran into some road closures. After some brief discussion we decided to see what the scoop was with this "mystery trail" that connected Klondike Bluffs with Salt Valley Road... hmmmmmm Klondike Bluffs We reached the top and (begrudgingly) JL agreed to hike up to the top. The view was worth it. JL shows us why he is Mr. September in the LOST Rockies Calendar! Then from the top we headed down the unknown back route... the book says something along the lines of "...we heard from a guy in a bar that there's a trail back there that goes somewhere else" So we headed on down... (note: the first of my troubles on the trip... the weld that broke on the passenger fender... D'OH!!) The trail got fun in spots s we headed down into the valley. JL gets flexy We survived the descent and then raced down a sandy road (in the wrong direction) back to the highway. I managed to break my CB antenna bracket and my passenger fender on that trail a trip to the store was in order. We got a new bracket and I just decided to go fenderless for the rest of the weekend... yahoo After the repairs were completed... the group decided to run some more trails, and the Hidden Canyon Overlook was picked. Off we went.... ...and quickly got lost OK so we just had to come to agreement on where we were.... we hopped on the 3D trail to Hidden Canyon on some cool slickrock. My naked KJ JL rides into the sunset The Canyon did turn out the be worth the trip... I need to go back and check it out some more. We made it off the trail just as the sun was going down and made it just in time for some Fiesta Mexicana.... Nicole decided to be our designated Margarita sampler while we debated tomorrow's trails. The consensus was Elephant Hill OK so we didn't actually get to run that trail after we found out it was a long drive to get there... So instead we loaded up our peanut butter sandwiches and headed to the Pritchett Arch trail. The trail itself wasn't too bad but it did have some fun obstacles on the way. Typical Moab ledges.... The trail ends at the bottom of Pritchett Canyon at the base of the arch. The arch is worth the hike up to it!! (that's me in the middle of it) Then it was back to the top of the canyon rim... trying to race the sunset. Then it was the first-timer's attempt at some obstacles... she did surprisingly well and my Jeep still has most of its pieces. She might just be hooked.... uh oh... she's already asking about LJS We climbed forever before getting back to the easier roads.... JL did try to get us to do a night run on the Behind the Rocks trail Then he climbed one big hill, turned around, and we headed back to the highway just as it got dark. (yes, that one's an HDR photo) Had an awesome trip!! |

Did you make it to hidden canyon overlook, there's a cool sand road out that way that you can almost get air on in the soft sand. It's a blast Great pics, can't wait till summer. |
