...and the fun continues, as we head to Ouray, Colorado for the 22nd Annual Ouray Jeep Jamboree

Image

Day One of the Jamboree found us assembling in town, then heading south on US550 to the other side of Red Mountain Pass. Once on the Ophir Pass Road, we stopped to air down.

Our trail leader Mark heads over Ophir Pass. Unfortunately, there was no convenient sign to signify this event.

The only "difficult" section of this road is the long, one-lane shelf road on the west side of the pass. Fortunately, the sight of 15 Jeeps heading downhill in a line kept any uphill traffic from coming up (even if they had the right-of-way).

After a brief stop in posh and trendy Telluride for lunch (where I found the resident canines friendlier than the resident humans), we headed uphill towards the abandoned Tomboy mining site and Imogene Pass. Oh, did I mention that the aspen trees were screaming yellow? That's pretty much the point of this jamboree - none of the trails we took were technically difficult, but they were certainly scenic.

We made it!

Our Liberty made it to the top with no problems.

The road downhill, back towards Ouray. The weather got kinda crappy on the east side of the pass, with intermittant rain.

After a quick stop back at our motel room, we headed to the Ouray Community Center for dinner, which is included in the price of the Jamboree. This lifted Liberty was the only other Liberty to participate in the Jamboree, 2 out of about 65...to top it off, it was driven by a little white-haired grandmother! (the front license plate says "Grandma Rocks", and indeed she did.)

Next up, Jeep Jamboree Day 2, as we head up to Mineral Point and the Animas Forks ghost town. Stay tuned!

I have a theory that it doesn't matter what kind of camera you have.... it is impossible to take a bad picture in the Ouray area. Now I just need to test it out.

Looks like a blast can't wait to see day 2.
