Yes, I should be working, but instead I've had a bit of a sift through our club's photos for some nice muddy shots;
And, yes, they all made it. But that's 'cos they're all 4x4s! |

WoW! Looks like a broken-off fender flare and a bent OEM rock rail in that second picture. |

Yes, I think the broken fender flare was a victim of this bog-hole attempt. A little bit too fast perhaps?
It's not an OEM rock-rail, and it's not bent. They're very nice custom made rock-rails, with a kind of a double-bar effect. One that runs along the rocker and the other that bends up and around to protect the sill. You can kind of see them in this shot;

I've just been out and bought it now - "Australia's most modified KJ" - those cheeky, cheeky buggers! I've seen the Suburban KJ before, it's pretty much just a copy of mine. I guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! Yeah, no diff locks, no re-gearing, no bash plates. It's supposedly built as a tourer, but has all the luggage space taken up with drawers and a fridge (which is OK). But there's no cargo barrier, so you can't actually fill up the boot, and there's no roof-rack so you can't put stuff there either. They've removed the rear mud-flaps and relocated the license plate to the bottom left of the rear bumper, both of which will violate ADRs and make it illegal to drive on the road. Plus, the license plate looks like it would get ripped off the first decent bit of off-roading you do. Also, where's the dual batteries? You'd really want that for running a fridge. That lovely beige interior is going to get covered in mud; seat covers can be quite cheap you know. The GPS they've got would be useless offroad since it's only got an internal aerial and it won't have 4x4 track mapping data on it. Etc, etc. If it's supposed to be a show-case vehicle then there's plenty more they can do to it. It seems as though the whole article is basically a thinly veiled advertisement for Suburban's SubXtreme products. The Sub KJ isn't a million miles away, but as far as I'm aware Chequer-Plate Chick's is probably the most modified (Australian) KJ I know of. It's also the only one that I know of with the ARB diff locks. I don't know of anyone that's got the 4.1 or 4.56 gears. But they're all on my shopping list. If only I didn't have to buy a new sofa! More about Chequer-Plate Chick's truck here; http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/vbgarage.php?do=view&id=7197 |

I assume you mean CPC's KJ? The Sub one doesn't have a light bar at all! |

Fouros, Yeah the mag just landed......... Those so called "EDITORS" of that mag cirtainly are'nt doing they're job. Their facts are wrong about alot of the Sub KJ......I wish they'd proof-read the article with the owners before they printed these things........ Couple of pointers: 1. Quote: "To aid in the removal of hot diesel gases at the other end of the engine, a set of 2.5" extractors and a 2.5" mild steel exhaust system have been employed" ........ "MILD STEEL" as an exhaust system.........cirtainly not for a 4x4 which goes on the beach......... 2. SubKJ is a 2.5lt CRD, not a 2.8lt as they state in the article............ 3. Under the "BRIEFLY" caption... ENGINE.........2.8lt EFI diesel....................................WTF? lol!! Its a CRD !! BRAKES........Front and Rear Ventilated disk..............for shame..... WHEELS........15x7 Jeep Alloys.................................Are you guys for real? They're 16's !! (and Renegade Alloys at that...)! LOL!! Sorry lads, I just wanted to Jurno bash......(no pun intended!! Fouros', i'll be in a V8 Laredo if I can make it. I'll keep you posted closer to the date. Is it a day trip ?? Thanks for the invite |
