Post subject:  Attempt at a NY LI Beach Run (Fail)

A couple of us guys on Long Island, NY (LI_KJ, BennyMigs, VMKJCRD, and myself) Got our permits this morning to allow us to drive on the beach at a couple different beaches throughput LI. We woke up to some nice (unexpected, well, at least for me because I didn't listen to the weather) snow flurries. Nothing too crazy, but I got excited. We drove out to the office, paid the fee, and got our permits. Of course we got a comment on how we "must be the Jeep crew". Because seriously, how often do you see four Libertys parked next two each other, two of them being lifted, and clearly "Jeepers". Well we got our permits and we drove to the beach. When we got there, we were welcomed with a "No Vehicles on Beach" sign, we said shucks, and drove to a different location, fingers crossed! But once again, no luck. Well, at least we got to meet up and take some pictures that NY (LI) was seriously lacking. Anyway. We had fun, but April 1st, I can bet I know where we will be (driving on the beach).

Here are some photos that we I managed to get. Enjoy.
(Sorry they are large, I didn't feel like making all of them smaller, next time)

Nice shots Dean. Now I have a reason to push me to get my tires and put my skids on.

Robert Moses, wow haven't been there in a long time. I moved off the Island back in '04, I visit often but haven't been to that beach in forever. Brings back some good memories.

Nice jeeps.

When you got your permits... they didn't give you a map, a list or tell you what beaches you could drive on?? I'd be asking for my $$$ back if it was a one day permit.

It's a permit that is good for the year, and they did give us a pamphlet with maps of what beaches and routes were open, as well as access points/air stations. The first beach was said to be open 24 hours all year long the 2nd beach we tried out said it would close for the months of Jan-March, but when we drove by the access point it was open up until you hit the sand (about 3/4 mile). They also can close the beaches when erosion gets bad or the tide is too high, leaving no beachfront to ride on.
In the permit office there were some pictures posted of wheelers who did not know how to ride on the sand. A few sinkers in the Atlantic Ocean and some nice dug in deep shots. :ROTFL:
Here's a few of pics I took that are much like infernicus' shots. Nice pics by the way. I wanna see a lift in 2010 for VMKJCRD and infernicus!!!

SWEEET!

Peter, those deer were awesome, I passed two other groups before I decided to stop, I was like this is too good to be true, lol.

Riptricket, the lights I put on the cowl aren't like police lights that you can move around at free will, but I can re-aim them pretty easily depending on what I want to light up. Here's a link to a post I put up for someone else. viewtopic.php?f=45&t=48883&p=549998#p549998

Benny, I know what you mean, you get your tires and skids, and I'll get my lift. I'm still torn on getting the lift, I drive to the city quite often, and have to park in the garages, I don't want to get stuck not being able to park, especially on the job, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about, you can't tell the bride, "Hey, sorry, my Jeep doesn't fit, have a nice ceremony!" lol. I don't think anyone would be too happy about that. But I probably will buy my rims first, so I will be ready.

Sport, well next time you're up in NYC, we'll meet up, or if you can convince us to come down to you with some sick trails or something, I'm sure we'd (at least I would be) down to get something going. Of course because your a fellow (ex) New Yorker, lol.

Found the pictures of the guy that decided to go swimming with his camper.

From Newsday:

"Disorderly conduct charge for owner of car in surf
BY BILL MASON | bill.mason@newsday.com
11:43 PM EDT, April 24, 2009
The owner of a vehicle stuck in shoreline waters at Robert Moses State Park was arrested by state park police Friday, who said they found him there intoxicated and uncooperative.

The surf was coming up around the vehicle at the four-wheel-drive fishing access area about 3:50 p.m., and police said they began operations to get the 1999 Chevrolet Pickup camper out of the water.

Timothy Deem, 43, of Farmingdale, the vehicle's owner, was charged with disorderly conduct, police said."

Remember guys if you go out there and something bad happens you will end up in the Point Democrat wall of shame!

Peter! Great find. I just don't understand how these people end up in the ocean when driving on the beach!
Lets hope when the time comes for us to get a run on the sand together again, that we don't end up like that fool.
Unlikely, but you never do know... :ROTFL:
