Post subject:  Where is the Mud???
Well, I was really excited about going scrappin this past weekend.....but after driving around for three hours, we came home never leaving gravel. All of our old places were closed down!! Got some advice from friends and went up into the mountains....drove for another two hours. We made it offroad a couple of times for about 30 feet. :cry: The the ruts got too deep and my poor Bullet started scraping bottom. Even a Frankenlift would not have helped the ruts go to be about 10-12 inches about five feet after I stopped. Anyway, I saw a cool granite pile so I decided to take a couple of poser pics....note the utter lack of MUD!!

Thanks! Answer: Bullet is silver, it was dusk and the flash does indeed make her look periwinkle; which would thrill my daughter, she loves her daddy's amethyst Dodge. (The men say it is NOT purple!) LOL :P

I just got home from California looking forward to some trailing, only to find the city closed a few of my trails....a few of my buddies at work were telling me how they got posted at these trails to ticket dudes in rigs if they went in......they told me they knew I'd love it.....I told them not to tell me that. :wink:

Well, I was pretty upset....driving all that time and not finding any mud. I still had to wash Bullet because we did find a puddle or two, but it didn't even get the doors dirty! This weekend we have another spot to check out...there is supposed to be acres of nothing but mud fields....wish me luck! If I can find it, pics will follow.

I like your rocky poser picts! You love mudding so much, you should remove your skids and fenderwell plastic inserts and clean up "under" them every once in a while. A lot of mud apparently gets up under there and will lead to corrosion.

And, if you need some mud? Come visit VA Beach! We got mud as far as the eye can see. And after you dig it up, it smells like dead fish and frog poop! Throw in a nice layer of algae and top with a bajillion tons of mosquito larvae and you have VA Beach Stew.

YUMMY! Slings really good though!

You have to cut the rivits off. If you want to put them back in (wheel wells) then you need to get a rivit gun and rivits. Personally, I took mine out and left them out. Aside from a little more noise when the roads are wet and the hum of the tires, there is no difference.

I think I worded that other post badly. I made it sound like I was suggesting removing and replacing the fenderwell liners. Those are pretty much remove and forget. Or maybe we could fab up some connectors that would allow us to remove the liners and put them back in without cutting and replacing rivets each time. Little tiny hood clips???

Or maybe we could pull the dang things off and seal them up with silicone when we re-install them. You know, keep mud from getting up underneath it in the first place.

How about spraying some Great Stuff up in there (shrug). It fixes what ails the unsealed areas in my house. Why not the truck too?

I don't know. I haven't tried any of these things. But I will probably eventually do what Richard (uvalax236) did. Check his PhotoBucket picts. He removed the liners and hit the fenderwells with truck bed coating. I think it's sweet and I'll follow suit as soon as my stubborn mind stops trying to come up with impossible and impractical ways to keep the liners and either make them cleanable, or sealed.

In case anyone doesn't know what I'm talking about when I say "Great Stuff." This stuff is AWESOME! I think I'm going to build my next house using nothing but Great Stuff and recycled rubber tires.

It might be a bad idea but here goes. How hard is it for that "Great Sutff" to come off? Im thinking about spraying it around my fuel lines (Wheel Wells would cover it) to protect them. Im thinkin that a good size rock could rupture the line and do some serious damage. Spray that stuff around the lines and then hit it with some more truck bed liner and wolllla!

Not a bad idea. Don't know how the bed liner would hold up on the outside of such an elastic material, but definitely worth a test. When we go down for the CRS rails trip we'll have to try it...on something other than the Jeeps. I'll bring the Great Stuff, you bring the bed liner. We'll find a fuel-line-esque item to sacrifice to the greater good of Jeep development.

How hard is it to get off, you ask? Well, I got some on my hands when I was sealing up the gap between my tub surround and the wallboard...I believe that stuff was on there for about 4 days, 27,524 washings with every soap I could find, and a thorough soak in alcohol (you're soaking in it Marge...AND drinking it!). Got a little dab on the tub. That was..ohhhh...6 months ago. It's still there. Now I use it as traction when I'm getting out of the shower. Thinking about drawing some flowers on the floor of the tub with it...make it look like it's supposed to be there.
