Since SanDiegoDave's Anza Borrego desert run was rained out we decided to drive 45 minutes the other direction and go play in the snow. It looked more like Colorado in spots than San Diego.

The cows seemed to be mooing, "We're California cows, what's up with all this cold wet white stuff?"

Dang! Snowed way more there than up in the high desert Lancaster/Palmdale areas. Cool pics. What area is it exactly?

We were on the back (east) side of Palomar Mountain above Lake Henshaw at about 5,200 ft according to my GPS. The snow level was down to about 2,000 ft...we could see Warner Springs down in the valley and it had a lots of large white patches.

Isn't it just bizzare? We have snow too. If you go 15 minutes on way you hit the ocean, 15 the other and you hit snow.

They closed Highway 17 between Santa Cruz and San Jose because we don't know what to do if it's not sunny, foggy or dark.

Can't wait for it to happen again in another 30 years.

Bah! When I was younger we drove both directions to and from the trail uphill in 15 feet of snow with wooden wheels!

I showed up for the run on 3/12 :D On the way to the run on 78E, there were some signs with the warning:

"78 Closed. Residents Only"

"Snow Chains Required. 4WD with Snow Tires OK"

So, naturally, we just drove on through. 8) Actually it wasn't that bad. There was just a spot or two where I felt slight loss of traction.
