Wasnt gonna put any pics up till the truck is finished (miles away yet, lots of idea's  ) ... but I bolted the rack I designed on today as the weather was a little better  .... its Soooooo rigid and strong, much stronger than the OE roof rails its on     Window tints and tyres next , then rack mounted spots etc etc etc

Andy, that looks great!! I like you Roof Rack, sits realy nicely all you need now are some Spot light up there. I take it these are the first photos with your new lift installed? it sit realy nicely. Fil. |

Cheers guys Infurno - I did a rough technical drawing (made a mistake with it actually  ) and a friend of a friend fabricated it up for me in his own time where he works, as they have all the gear  (this is the third one he's done for now, see below) the Mitsi had around 80kilo's of luggage up top for that trip!!  Fil - cheers mate, yeah just need to pop some spacer's above the clevis (about 8-10mm should do it), do you have to unbolt the sway bar links or anything to get the clevis to disengage from the strut once the bolt is loose ? also, anyone know what the O.D of the strut is where the clevis clamps it ? what does everyone else use as a spacer ? |

If you are doing a clevis lift you don't need anything in there. It is two inch diameter in case you do though. Reason why most put something in there is more for the measurement ( keeping both sides the same ) but doesn't actually hold anything Rack looks good, only thing I would change is to mount it down lower so it doesn't stick up in the air so far |

With ya completely on that one Tom ... I did look at mounting it directly to the roof so it was lower, but decided not to mess with removing the OE rails etc. .. and I plan to mount some stuff on the side's between the bottom of the rack and the actual roof (awening for one) so it will help to hide the height a little, as will some spots up front etc So the whole of the trucks sprung weight on the front strut assembly his held by the clevis clamping bolt alone ?  something tells me the strut isnt gonna "just slide out'a that"  So bolt loosen, crow bar clevis apart a little, lower hub away to dis-engage ... is that it ? |

Dont think so dude  .. I've been asked that a few times on other 4x4 forums when they've seen his work, so I approached him saying he could make a small fortune fabricating racks, slider's, skids, bumpers, you name it, he can make it (and better than off the shelf stuff cus he dosent cut corners to save a few $$ ) .. but he just dosent seem up for it  , and dosent actually NEED the work, I'm lucky cus I work with his wife and know them pretty well

Strut???? No the "shock" will not slide out of the clevis if tightened properly, have seen them go thousands of miles with no issues at all. So if done right you're good to go, raise 3/8 of an inch for 3/4 inch of lift. Would not go more than that. I'd remove the cross bars and mount the rack directly to the rails but ...... |

Made up some 10mm spacers today to slip onto the end of the Bilstiens today, so I'll pop them on over the w/end Though I did see a thread somwhere here about over tightening a clevis bolt to the torque setting and it breaking  .. d'ya know what the setting is for an 05 CRD ? (looks a big old bolt to me and would take some breaking !!!)I might see if I can come up with a mounting system for the rack to do just that
