On day 2 I hiked the dunes.
Image
Image
After I finished I took the Medano Pass 4X4 Road it rained all day so the sand wasn't bad.

After I finished I drove through the Ghost town of St. Elmo and drove Tincup Pass and camped at mirror lake

On day 3 (Thursday) I drove through the town of Tincup and set my Garmin for Lake City, Co.
Image
Unfortunately, Garmin's idea of a County road is not the average person's or Colorado's idea of a county road,
It started off fairly wide, but got narrower and narrower.
Image
Image
I started realizing that I was on an ATV trail. One spot was so narrow that I scraped my rock sliders on both sides trying to get through.
Image
Here's a picture of one side after I washed it up.
Image
I finally made it through that trail after about 1 to 2 hours and much stress, then I headed to lake city and onto Engineer pass. I think I look goofy with my hat cocked back.
Image
I then proceeded to Oh! Point.
Image
Image
Image
Image
I then proceeded into Ouray down Mineral Creek.
Image
Image
Image
Image
Unfortunately I gashed my side wall about 1 mile from the end. I had to change it on the trail.
Image
I made it to Ouray about an hour late and got my vehicle inspected. I camped in the amphitheater campground.

On day 4 (Friday) I wonk up early and drove to Grand Junction (2 hours away) to the nearest Discount tire. They replace my tire no questions asked. Thank God for the tire insurance I bought. I then drove back the 2 hours to Telluride and met up with my group on Imogene Pass. I was in such a hurry to catch up with them I over heated my transmission trying to get up the mountain. I just pulled over, put it in Neutral, turned the heater on full blast, and waited, it eventually went back down.
Image
Image
Image
Jeep even sent a brand new Grand Cherokee 4x4 Laredo out there, but they only did the first day. I also heard a WK2 overland was also out there but the bottomed out on the Governor basin run and turned back. I saw a lifted Patriot heading on the trials, and a stock KK too. Unfortunately I didn't get to ride with them.
Image
We then did Last Dollar Road.
Image
On day 5 (Saturday) My group did the California Pass run, starting off with Mineral Creek (same one that gashed my tire coming down), then to Animas Forks wear a group of Hummers (the real ones) also showed up, California Pass, Hurricane Pass and Corkskrew Pass.

After the run I aired back up went to dinner, and headed to Moab.

*Edit* Here's some photos that were sent to me on Imogene Pass

I camped out at Sandy Flats Recreation area, for day 6 (Sunday).
I warmed up on Baby Lions Back.
Image
Image
Image
I then proceeded to Fins N Things, where I ran into a group of TJ's from Texas, and a JKU Rubicon from California and a passenger from Finland. He was telling us how he had a diesel JK in Finland.

I impressed them considering I have an "IFS" Jeep. I took every line they did except for one where only one of the lifted ones did. I think I could have made it but I was second in line and the lifted jeep in front of me didn't do it and I was following him.
I then headed to Arches National Park and asked a few people with 4x4s if they wanted to do the 4x4 trail with me.I ran across a couple from Germany in Land Rover Defender who were traveling the world. They had been on the road for a 1.5 years already and had at least a year to go. They had been to South America, Alaska, Canada, and Australia. They Agreed to go with me, but were nervous because they had never done any time of rock crawling before, even if this would be mild.
On the way to the trail we ran across a 2wd Liberty that was stuck just off the shoulder with a German driver. He pulled over to take a picture and got stuck.

Tincup Pass and atv trail http://youtu.be/6yP6F1Cb-TI
Engineer Pass, Oh! Point, and Mineral Creek http://youtu.be/ZvPrjSpq1qs
Jeep Jamboreehttp://youtu.be/x3D88XaolYw
Moab http://youtu.be/BUiv1oPRJ4M
They had a lot of fun on the trail. I then started my drive home and spent the rest of the 7th day driving home.
The Ouray Jeep Jamboree was fun and I would recommend it to anybody who has the time and money. Good people and good trails. I had met up with another member here Cameraflage, and met an 80 year old lady with a fully locked white KJ that I aspire to be like. She has done every trail on the Jamboree and many in Moab. It was awesome.
Most of what I took on this trip was videos, including the area I scraped my rock sliders. I may also post more pictures if some of the people on the trip send them to me.

It was pretty sweet they have a bed, fridge and other high speed stuff in there. I was surprised it didn't have lockers, just the center diff lock and traction control, just like us. But they do have a SFA. They sold every thing they had to buy it and travel.

Thanks all. I am blessed to have been able to make that trip. The German couple said the Arches' 4X4 road reminded them of Australia. I would love to Ship my Jeep to Australia and all over Europe. I know y'all have a lot of beautiful country over there, too.

Did you remove the passenger seat or does the kk fold flat?

Author:  JeepNCrowd [ Fri Sep 21, 2012 8:55 am ]
Post subject:  Re: 2012 Colorado and Utah trip

It folds flat. I'm 6 foot tall and I had plenty of room to stretch my legs.

Great trip report!

I'm sitting here in Northern Ohio getting a bad case of wanderlust - I want to be there right now in the worst way. And you've proven the KK and a well-equipped KJ can do most of the trails with a bit of planning and the right weather.

Thanks again!

Bob

Dude, that's a seriously awesome trail report! I am impressed! Those are some great photos along with some great trails.

Glad to have met you in Ouray, and glad you made it home intact.

I'll be posting a report of our adventures in Colorado sometime this week.
