Looking at JeepNCrowd's pictures of Trees Ranch brought back some memories of the good and bad times I’ve had in my KJ. I figured I would post the evolutions of my KJ. Hope you enjoy and who knows maybe this might help motivate others here to take the plunge and start modifying their rigs.

This is not my rig but this is how mine started out. Picked her up with 25 miles.

Image

First thing I did was buy new wheels. I decided to go with the KMC Enduro's with BFG KM 235s

Image

Picked up some LED tail lights as well as some MOPAR goodies like a wind deflector, bra and cross bars.

Image

Image

Next came the Frankin lift II with Jeepinbyal 4.5 A arms and KM2 265s

After watching a buddy sink his TJ and hydro lock his motor it was time for a snorkle.

Image

Then my moment of shame.... I decided to show off.... hit a mud hole in 2WD and got stuck. An hour later and a missing front bumper I was out and on to my next project.

Image

Image

Image

And so the project began.....

Bought a roof rack from Defender Racks

Then I made the move from Texas back to Colorado and the fun began.

Added roof lights and a light cage.... most people think its too much but it has grown on me. I didnt know how big it was until it showed up on my door step.

Finally after 3 years my rig was getting a winch. Now with the install we ran into a couple of problems. The stinger as it turned out was in the way of the winch plate and winch.... so.... we cut it off. I think it turned out better but every now and then I sure miss that stinger.

Image

And more goodies showed up

Full skids from Skid Row minus the gas tank skid

Image

Rock Lizard Super Skink sliders and custom Komodo HD rear bumper

Image

Along with the goodies Marty made the drive back to Colorado, hand delivered the goods and even installed them.

And as it sits now... well almost

Now I dont have the pictures right now but the rear bumper has the swing away hi lift / can x2 holder (The custom part x2 cans) and a Rock Lizard gas tank skid. Also I made the switch to the OME CRD HD struts and added a ISO in the rear. Thanks for looking and if anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

Some questions:

Is that an awning or for fishing rods?

Are you still in CO?

Where are the pictures of the gas tank skid??

That rig is awesome, I hope RL makes a rear bumper like that for the KK. And I love you front bumper. If you're ever back in San Antonio Area let me know I would love to go wheeling.

Post subject:  Re: Old to New

arengant- Yep still in Colorado and yes it is a fishing pole holder. It comes in handy on long trips as well as always having them on hand. I am still waiting to paint the gas tank skid due to the cold weather but I will take pictures of it today and post them up. I’m also working on a full length roof rack complete with a roof top tent and awning system.

4x4Kayak2112- I do have more pictures of the bumper that I can post up. As far as mounting, it is actually completely welded to the front end. I need a front bumper in order to drive my rig to post (My unit had strict rules on vehicles) . Now with that being said I was in a hurry and didn’t take the time to do it right and build a mounting system. It was not the smartest move but I tell you what it is anchored in real well and sturdy. When I look back on it I wish I would have done it right. I guess I could always cut it off and fab something up huh.

man I love that RL bumper really hope to have one someday! Looks like you lost quite a bit of height from it though, or that could just be the angle. Nice rig and can't wait to see more!

More pics as promised.

Double can holder with Hi Lift mount...

Now as you can see the mod blocks my tail light but I am about to install a LED maker to make up for it.

And the Rock Lizard gas tank skid. Now I did not want to post these because it is still sitting in the back of my rig bare. Once some paint flies and its installed I will post more and do up a right up on the fit and what not.

I did lose quite a bit of lift due to the added weight of the winch, skids, sliders and rear bumper. Tom helped me out and because of his wisdom I ditched the old sagging 2009 gasser OME HDs to the CRD OME HDs (970) + 1 ISO in the rear. Because of this I made up for the loss of lift and I tell you what I sure am happy. Thanks again Tom.

I got it at Big 5 Sporting Goods when I used to work there back in 05. I bought it for a trip from CA to CO via train. Once I got my KJ I thought what better place to put it than on my roof rails. I would say make your own to your specs and liking.

Now in the future..... 4.10s, lockers, Roof Top Tent complete with awning, full length roof rack, drawer system in the back with cargo shelf. After another fun time in the sand box I should have it all with in 6 months or so. Oh and its in that order :JEEPIN:

Glad I could help some to keep the KJ up!
For the rear with my RL bumper etc I'm now running a set of JBAs own 4 inch coils testing them
I'll keep you updated on how they do long term, only had them on 5000 miles or so
Where did you get the can holders
I have one mocked up to weld up but yours look pretty good as well

RLs gas tank skid looks great
of course all of his parts are top notch

have to look closer at them. I only run the true NATO cans so have to be sure they'll work with them

OR just go ahead and make my own
