Guess I should start a thread here about this project.

got the thing 3 years ago in really.... really... uncared for shape for the cost of the shop rebuilding the valves and timing after the last owner let them all fall apart. turbo was jammed up, limp mode was all it had on the test drive.

Image
can see the dead tires... yes every classic issue was going on at this time. but for $4K I was willing to take on a project.

over the past 3 years I have gotten about everything under control and put another 45K miles on it. Has never stranded me and now Im rewarding it with some real upgrades and wanting to use it more on the trails.

Image
Two years ago, preparing for a trip into the cascades, rack helps a lot with such a small interior and between 1-4 dogs on any trip out into the woods.

Image
Took my friends out camping on a trail I had not used before... became clear I needed more height and armor. I think I found about half the rocks on the trail from tank traps and ruts... ouch.

Time for work!
Image
Dog likes to help me out at the shop when the jeep needs some help or getting some improvements.

after a Frankenlift II, fuel tank armor, reverse lights, and light bar added to the rack aswell as a trail jack mount that I found works on racks as cheap as mine and a CB installed, has been doing a lot better on trails and being able to check in with people on the way up. Got an alignment on it after the lift only to find my wheels had been toed in for a while so now need tires...

Image
Image
Jeep's current look and height aside form me adding the bolderbars under the rockers, im sure I will have some pics of that soon... hopefully keeping me form getting whacked by a tank trap.

anyone have success trimming the wheel wells enough to fit 255/75/17's? been looking around this forum and not seen any clear answers on this. 2.5" lift and 1.5" adapter spacers are what I would be working with... I see 2014-current Rubicon wheels with good tires come up on CL around here all the time for under $1K, but they need to fit!

Beautiful.

Glad it found someone to care for it properly.

it's a mega cheap amazon special version of the Curt rack (mine is the generic version) less than $100 delivered. got it when I was pretty much broke or I would have gone for something a bit nicer, though it holds what I need for camping and supports accessories decently so im happy with it for now.

and thank you

255-75-17s are a 32 inch tall tire, with that size you need at least 4 inches of lift and 4.10 gears
Don't know what you have as far as height but doesn't look like 4 inches, measure and report bakc ( from middle of the wheel to bottom of the flare in front)
Current JK wheels are 5on 5 bolt pattern and do not fit our 5 on 4.5 as you know so no go.
And they are being sold cheaper than that even due to no one wants them
But lots more lift and regear if you want to run that size, no trimming of the wheelwells is going to help with that size tire

It's just a 2.5" lift, if trimming won't help seems I'm just going
To have to pass. I can adapt to the 5x5 bolt pattern easy enough but it would space out the wheels from the hubs a bit too...

Thanks for the feedback, unfortunate those CL deals won't fit on the liberty at all. Would have to swap the front axle to a solid setup to do a 4.5" lift I suspect.

got a big box to open... excited to install it's contents... some of you likely could guess what it is.

Also got some new wheels/tires.. 8X16 wheels and 245/75R16 tires.

I ended up getting wheels with the spacing I wanted so did not need the spacers

sure the wheels are Pro Comp Series 31 Alloy Wheels http://www.autoanything.com/wheels-rims ... loy-wheels 16x8 5x4.5

and the tires are Pro Comp AT Sport Tires http://www.autoanything.com/tires/pro-c ... port-tires 245/75R16

you will need to do some wheel well altering and pinch weld flattening or they rub, I have a 2.5" lift

All in a day's work

Not being able to use the stock fog lights is a surprise... not happy about needing to order ARB lights and looms to work on a KJ that had stock fog lights...

Anyway, will post more when it's all together

Haha.... only put it on there remembering with my old military truck I would sometimes find mud holes that were far deeper than I expected. Didn't want my turbo to help hydrolock me in a hurry.

Though if it helps me spot orcas, I won't complain ;)

Older ARB bumpers for the 05-07 could re use the old fogs. You got a newer kind that uses the 02-04 housing size, guess they wanted one style to cut at the factor.

Your liberty looks just like mine...except my snorkel is sitting at my parents garage in Phoenix waiting for me lol

no, it's a prototype (ish) tire carrier mod on another bumper put together by rocklizard, not a lot made of this style
