After seeing Savage's guide to installing a BassLink II sub (nice guide btw, was very helpful), I decided to splurge on the BassLink I. I've got an Alpine 9857 driving the thing, and used a SCOSCHE 8 guage wiring kit (around 60 bucks) to "get er' done". My method was a bit different. I ran my wires on the sides of the car under the removable panels. The signal and power cables were run on opposite sides to avoid interference, and only meet at the end. I drilled holes on the seat frame to mount the gain control remote, and capped the sharp ends of the screws with wire twist-caps (ingenious improv idea on my part i think, hah). Anyways, here's some pics of my install.

In-Line 20A fuse mounted to top of fuse box, lined up the screw holes on the very right notch, just between two big fuse blocks

Power Cable (8-guage) runs through firewall via drilled hole about 1/2 inch left of the gas pedal cable

Power, REM-cable, and remote control cable run under the panels and emerge neatly behind the back left seat

Sub is nice and small in the back, but still hits hard, but smooth (i dont listen to rap)

I drilled holes and mounted the gain-control remote onto the driver's site seat frame. It's a slightly far reach, but nothing uncomfortable.

UPDATE: So, I listen to rock music, and almost never rap unless I'm out barhopping and partying. Anyways, I decided to give "My Humps" by the Black Eyed Peas a shot, and WOW is all I can say. The bass was pounding like crazy, and it sounded awesome.

What did the total cost of sub and accessories to hook it up come to? Do you have the stock stereo head in there still? I still have the stock sound system and wanted just to add the BassLink.

the basslink I was 299.99 before tax, plus you need a wiring kit which will cost anywhere from 50-75 bucks. I started off with an Alpine deck, but it comes with cables that you can use to splice into all the stock exisiting speaker wires, and it'll take the sound from the speakers and use them for its signal.

So basically you're saying I could use my stock set-up just by splicing one of my speakers, if I get the BassLink?

yeah, it comes with 2 sets of 2 cables that meet into a middle plug. The plug goes into the sub, one for the front and one for the rear. You take the cords, run them to the existing speaker wire (given youre wanting to use it off a stock setup), and simply splice the cables into the speaker cables you already have. I can't tell you how well it works though, but I'd assume it works fairly well, but probably not as great as a 3rd party dedicated sub-output like I have. If you're interested in getting it but you're unsure about it, order from Crutchfield, they're great about returns. Oh yeah, and I had to put the horizontal mounting brackets on today and lay it down because I made a sharp turn and it tumped over. Still sounds just as good though.
