Crash Course On Off-Roading?

Just wondering if there are any little secrets I should know and if theres a place where I can find basic 4x4 info. I see pics of you guys going threw mud puddles and crossing small rivers. What speed do you guys take these at or is it just slow and steady?

Most the time slow and steady wins the race. The best thing i can tell you is know your Jeep, you need to know when the ruts are too deep for you and in those cases you split the rut. Skids are your friend especially if you don't have a lift, and when your playing with rocks. Never go alone, the last thing you want to do is get stuck out in the middle of nowhere and nobody to pull you out, which brings me to tow points, its alot better to be pulled out by a tow point rather than wrapping the tow strap around your axles.

HAHA ALRIGHT I DONT GOTTA WORRY BOUT ROCKS OVER HERE AND I KNOW ALL ABOUT TOW POINTS....FOUND OUT THE HARD WAY ON A FRIENDS CAR HAHA.....ALSO I DONT REALLY WANT A BIG LIFT I HAVE READ ABOUT SOME SPACERS ARE THESE ANY GOOD?

Don't just fly through water and mud. You never know what is hiding underneath.

Fast will most likely break things (on your KJ). Rocks and logs are happy when that happens.

Put the tire on the tallest rock if possible. Don't straddle big rocks in your path.

well the tallest lift you can get for the Liberty is 3", I personally prefer suspension lifts, But if price is what your looking at most, I think the Daystar spacer lift from what i've read on this forum is the best. And he's right you never know whats lurking under the mud, when people get stuck they sometimes put rocks and other crap in there to get traction. If you have the time and mechanical ability, removing the rear sway bar gives you more flex.
Caution: If your spinning your front tires and suddenly get traction, the front diff. may crack, its weak and a few folks on here have cracked it.

YEA NOT TO MUCH TO OFF ROAD AROUND HERE SO I REALLY DONT NEED A SUSPENSION LIFT AND HOW DEEP IS TOO DEEP FOR MUD? ALSO REMOVING THE REAR SWAY BARS ITS ON THERE FOR HANDLING CORRECT HOW MUCH DIFFERENCE WILL I NOTICE.....REMEMBER IM COMMING FROM A SLAMMED CAR TO A JEEP SO ITS ALL NEW TO ME.

Well as long as you don't bottom out then you can go as deep as the bottom of the hood-top of the grill area(this is where the air intake is). Removing the rear is ok most people don't notice any difference in handling, but it does allow for a good bit more flex and its not that hard to take off and put back on. Don't remove the front sway, the KJ becomes a little unstable above 15mph with it off. The best way to learn is to just go and start off easy, build your confidence, and progress from there. You'll learn way more from experience.

This is where my front diff. was dragged thru the mud.

The only wheeling tip I can think of is to keep your thumbs on the outside of the steering wheel with the rest of your fingers. If you grab it like most people normally do, you'll have some sore thumbs at the end of the day. It's not much of a tip but it does make a difference.

does anyone use a hi lift jack for thier KJ. If so, what points are there for jacking other than the wheel hook accessory.

You use a high lift on steel front and rear bumbers and rock sliders if you invest in them.
