Post subject: | Renegade Light bar on a non Renegade |
First, I tried searching, didn't find anything, so I thought I'd post this here. I see you can buy the Renegade bars on ebay with all the harnesses and switches and stuff. What sort of carnage will I have to do to my non renegade to install them? I thought they would look pretty slik on my limited if I smoothed the plastic and painted it gloss white to match. Any ideas? Anyone done this? Thanks! Bob |

although i have a renny it did not come with the light bar.. so i bought one off ebay (MUCH cheaper than from mopar).. and installed it myself. It's not bad.. take a few things off inside the jeep (just little screws and pop stuff off).. then the wiring is just plug stuff in. To put the light bar on you just put it up on the roof (we put masking tape down and marked the holes we needed on the roof).. then drill the holes out.. and install the nutserts then screw it on (of course using a overload of silicon on every hole)... and that's about it. it came with very good directions. I was very suprised the headliner didnt have to be removed.. very nice kit!.. If you have a general idea about a car this will be a breeze!.. |

I'm sure I can figure it out, I just wanted to hear what it all involved. I was pretty sure it involved drilling, but whated to hear it. I appreciate the general how too. I'll have to look into getting one now. Thanks!! Bob |

OK, new development. I'm dumb and I 'forgot' I had a sunroof. Will the bar still fit? Thanks. Bob |

Thats what I saw them for. I'm pretty sure they are quite a bit more at the dealer though. Bob |

Question for those who have done this.... Does the addition of that light bar make any more noise? |

Not to highjack the thread but i've been considering this upgrade also. How bright is the renegade light bar? Or am i better off mounting 2 hella 500's to the front bumper for a quarter of the cost?? |

The light bar is a combined 55,000 candlepower IIRC. The bulbs are actually 9007 style headlights, so think about adding 4 more headlights to the front of your Liberty. |

Acually the bulbs in the renegade light bar are 9006(HB4) bulbs and are rated at 51watts each.Just pulled my cover off and checked the bulbs.

Ok, I wasn't sure about that - I knew they were 9007 or 9006, I just knew they were one number different than the actual headlight bulbs on the Liberty. Thanks for the clarification! ![]() |

Post subject: | Renni light bar, Non-Renni Libby |
I know this is an old thread, but........I had a Renni bar put on my KJ in '03, it certainly provides ALOT more light. I never noticed an increase in noise, but make SURE the holes drilled into the roof are well sealed. I had an interior leakage problem during heavy rainfall. I took the big plastic cover off and found that the dealer installation had improperly sealed the holes. No big deal, a bit of automotive sealing caulk and the problem was no more. The only other problem I've had was a blown relay. A $6 fix from Auto-Zone. If all your roof lights go out at once and the fuse is good, Check the under-hood relay before tracing all the wiring. P.S. The light bar and installation cost me $633.59 total. |
