For those of us who bought their KJ used and think it didn't come with an owners manual (or for those that bought theirs new and for the life of them can't figure out where it is) K Dje Rru on Jeep KJ pointed out where it is hiding.

If you open the glove box you will expect the manual to be sitting right there in the pocket, but it's not. If you look just below the OS handle where the glove box door just uncovered, the manual is sitting in a little slot right there. Mine came in a nice canvas pouch with a leather Jeep logo. The previous owner must have never found it because it had never been opened before!

I will put up some pictures once I take some.

You have found one of the age-old secrets of the KJ.

Image

There is actually a little book icon and an arrow pointing at the hidden slot.

Secret #2, most sunvisors extend. Pull out further on the arm and the visor can get to that pesky spot of sun that usually drives you crazy.*

*I'm not responsible if you pull incorrectly and rip all of the wiring out of your visor. Or if yours just doesn't extend. :D

I also found that the windows will actually roll down and up even if the key is off and out of the ignition. It's the first car I've seen that does that! Even my 2004 Limited edition PT Cruiser doesn't do that!

Yes, as long as you don't open the door. then it disables it. You can open and close the sunroof too if you have one. It took me about 6 months after purchase to realize it would do that and I couldn't find anything in the owners manual about it.

BTT.....When I bought mine (new at the dealer) the salesman handed me the manual in an o/d pouch and showed me where it went. I would have never known, especially if I had got it used. You can't see that slot from the drivers seat when you open the glovebox unless you lean over and look for it. It is hidden pretty good.

And here I've been storing the owner's manual in the slot in the driver's door all this time.

Thanks.

:D

and i like how you can roll the windows up and down with the key in accessory mode. in other cars you have to turn the key to "on".

I would have preferred them ditching the perfectly matched slot for the manual and going with a full sized glovebox that I could fit more than a pack of gum in. LOL

WINNER!!!

darn I hate that thing. That was one of the very first things I did when I got my Jeep. I like to have the option to drive down the road real quick without the car yelling at me!

I was most likely using it to see if there was something in there about the stupid seat-belt chime or, worse, the rear window open "alarm."
