K&N Filters are not recommended for dusty (desert like) environments. I have the drop in type I paid $30 for it. Recommend cleaning it every 15-20K miles. Tell you the truth I’ve had it for over 30 and haven’t cleaned it properly I’ll taking it out and blow out the dust with the compressor but not with the K&N kit. I should put the kit I bought at Pep Boys for $9.99 into use.

Amsoil now makes a dry filter that is worth looking at. Check them out at www.amsoil.com

i have a K&N cold air system.. i looked it up on their website then found it for cheap on e-bay. i love it.. def. noticable. the intake combined with a magnaflow muffler improved my gas milage by about 3-4 mpg :) which im sure will go down the drain with bigger tires.. but atleast i'll break even with stock!

yes you MAY experience better gas mileage with K&N, but how much sooner will your engine be toast due to all the dirt and silt and fine powder thats caked on your throttle blades?

K&N with a Rustys Air tube and home built air box on now for over 70,000 miles I have cleaned it 4 times, also always check throttle body etc, NO, I repeat NO dirt in body or on blades also no oil residue either. Have ran them on 4 vehicles now with all going up into 150,000 to 175,000 when I sold them and no problems at all. Its all in the way you take care of a vehicle and keeping things clean. Now my state supplied Taurus is always having problems with dirt etc in the throttle bodies, of course I dont service it. They have to clean them every 20,000 / 25,000 miles to keep it running smoothly.

I had one on an F150 once. It coated the little wires on the MAF sensor and I had to clean theoff with a Q-tip and alcohol. I felt like a brain surgeon, knowinf ir I screwed them up, it would mean more money spent. I took the KN out and used it for target practise with my 12 gauge from a distance of 10 feet. Made me feel mucho grande.
