Does anyone know if you can visually see (or otherwise easily tell) the difference between the plain GL-5 diff lube and GL-5 with the additive in it for use with limited slip rear differentials? If I missed it please point me; search didn't work for me.

Other than the rep of the shop I use how can I tell if the fluid was properly changed? ie: My KJ has an LS rear diff and I want to check that the correct oil (oil + additive) was put into it. Is there a color change or anything?

I don't have any indication of a problem, just curious. My Jeep dealer replaced my LS rear diff innards under warranty last summer (last gasp of my 5 yr. extended warranty, worth every cent; I don't buy extended warrantees on anything but this was an exception).

Of my current Jeeps only the KJ and the Cherokee yard mule have LS rears. It wasn't available on the LJ as I recall. I never gave this much thought before but inquiring minds...

I don't know of a colored additive for LS rears, most I have seen are clear. If you don't have any in there you will mostl likely get chattering of the clutches and it will be noticable.

What I used you could never tell it was in there, no color difference, but if they didnt it will show up real soon as JJsKJ stated

OK, thanks guys. Maybe I will just try to witness the fill next time; I hate to wait for noise. OTOH maybe I'm getting paranoid in my old age. After all if you can't trust your local fluids guy who can you trust? No Clemens jokes please. :D
