Does anybody know if somebody makes longer or shorter front axleshafts for the KJ? After my Frankenlift I got so much lift that my inner C/V joints bound up and broke the rubber protective sleeve. The angle is to great for the joint to work properly. Love some help on this I work @ a jeep dealer and I can get the OEM shafts cheap but they will just bust again. |

So that is all I have to do is shave 3/8 inch off of the inner c/v joint housing? Seems any machine shop could do that? How hard can it be? |

The CV cups are harden steel.We looked into it here in CO,it would have cost $300 per cup to cut 3/8" off since it was hardened steel,very hard on machinist lathes.

I'm curious to try it. I cut some pretty hard stuff a lot and our shop only charges $60/hr. I wouldn't think it would take more than that to cut two of them. The machines I'm going to be running in GJ are 3 times as big and 3x the power, too. Maybe you guys could bring the next set over... might be a good idea to bring a junk one to practice on, jic, but I really don't think it would be too difficult. |

Intresting. So you guy are saying shorter shafts are better after a frankenlift? I thought a bit longer would have helped out. |

You need shorter shafts to allow clearance of the clevis at full extension. |

I just had mine cut down for $150 each. My cv's are sitting almost level to the ground now and I swear that whole front end is better than ever. It seems like it is a lot easier to steer (alignment is back at factory specs) and it seems to ride a lot nicer too. I think this rates at the top of the list for best money spent on the Jeep.

????  how did cutting your CVs make them more level to the ground? And alignment back to factory specs by only doing that ?

Correct me if I'm wrong..... The only thing I can see that is going to change by cutting 3/8" off the CV cup is, that it will allow for more angle on the front axles in order to increase front lift height and thus decrease CV binding. It doesn't shorten or lenghten the front axles at all. |

No correction needed Nick, you are right on the money. Where it came from that it would help the alignment, make it easier to steer, make it ride better or any of that is ...well not true Still waiting on a tall tale

just use the ones you have now, no need to get new ones unless you go above 4 inches plus then they will bind (the stock ones) I have over 113,000 on the stock ones and over 70,000 of that has been lifted, no problems |
