Today i drove and immediately heard a metal tapping under car, so i checked the oil which was low....I added 3 quarts and the tapping seems to be gone but now i get a #6 cylinder misfire code.....is the low oil and misfiring connected in some way? Its a 2003 jeep liberty sport v6

3 quarts low????????Thats enough for some serious engine problems right there!
BUT pull the # 6 plug and check it out ,if its been 20,000 miles or so since the last you changed the plugs I put all new plugs in, also you may switch the coils from # 6 cylinder to say # 4 and see if it may be a bad coil as well
Lets hope that you did not fry the engine or do some damage inside like broken valve springs or other things which is causing the issues

Do you have any major oil leaks to loose that much oil?

i had something similar last year at about 95000 or so miles during acceleration at around 2000 RPM. Had misfire in #6, #4, and #1! w00t Took it in to Jeep dealer and they changed spark plugs and cleaned injector cuz they were covered in oil. About a week or 2 later had same problem/noise and took it back to have plugs and injectors coverd again. They cleaned plugs and injectors again and was good to go for about a month. Took it to another guy and he scanned it while we drove around the neighborhood and kept getting misfire alternating between numbers 6 and 4 at random times at cruising speed. He didnt really know how to fix it but told me he would pull it apart to figure it out. I didnt have the money or extra vehicle so I never took it back to him. One day while at Wal-Mart I bought a bottle of fuel injector cleaner and put it in and haven't had a problem since.
