What is the little square box in the intake track for a 03 libby gasser? I see with a lot of CAI kits this is eliminated without any problems. What is the purpose of this box? Improve low end tourqe? Help idle?

Found one. Tthis box on the right with the 3.7l stamped on it.

Thanks in advance. :D

I had one in my Chevy Tahoe. People on forums like this one, said that it was called a silencer. If you remove it, it's supposed to give your engine a throatier sound upon acceleration. Said people believed that auto manufacturers would install this because the average consumer likes a quiet vehicle. I didn't remove mine on the Tahoe, but I would run without an airbox cover, and achieve the sound I wanted. You can't do this on the KJ of course because the air is pulled upwards towards the tube.

What he said...its just a silencer to help keep the sound of the motor down. As long as there are no sensors on that box then you could remove it and get an elbow to connect directly to the throttle body.
