I searched and didn't come right.

Yesterday on the way to work my CRD cut out going up a hill. Suddenly, no indication lights came on, not even jerked......just cut out dead.

put it in neutral, nothing...... not starting. I was stuck in traffic up a hill.

I put the transfer case in neutral to free run down the incline just out of the road.

traffic was too much so i tried starting her again. she started first time around.

I stuck her on both hears in drive and off we went. no other symptoms, nothing happened this morning on the same uphill.

My wife says it's because we went offroading on monday and went through a waterhole where the wheels were covered more than halfway with water.

i don't think yhat is it, but still i'm stumped.

any suggestions of what to check for?

thank you

The only time I had a problem like that - was after getting a tank of bad fuel
PowerService - helped until I could change the filter.

if it happens more than once - check the heater plug on your fuel head - if it's leaking air it'll stall when you try to accelerate.

My guess would be air in the fuel line. Mine only died completely once because of that but it was in traffic too. I got no lights and it threw no codes. The first time it happened I put my foot to the floor when it started coughing and after a minute or so it fired back up. After some posts on here I dianosed it as air. The next time I was ready and new what to do. I used to just bleed it weekly and I never stalled out again. Sometimes I would get air and sometimes I would go for a few months. I finally installed a lift pump so I wouldn't have to worry about it anymore.

I could be way off the mark here, so I hope someone else chimes in. If you don't get too many responses repost it in the CRD section.

It happened again this morning. We were on our wy to the pilanesberg Nature reserve when it cut out again. this time around the Check engine light came on. I fiddled in the front and found the diesel filter one revolution loose. I tightened it and pressed the bleed screw 5 times and she started up. the check engine light is still on now. but we managed to get home again.

Is there a way of bridging the OBD2 port to have the light flash to read the codes on the flashes of the light? I dont have a obd2 reader and our local service stations is closed.

It seems like I remember reading that it has been done but I can't find any reference to it so I am probably mistaken. You can take it to a parts store and they will scan it for you and give you the codes. I finally broke down and bought a scanner a year ago and it's been one of the best investments I have made tool wise. Not only helped me on the KJ numerous times but it diagnosed an ignition problem on the wife's Volvo. It still cost me $350 in parts to fix it, but the dealership would have charged at least double that to fix it. Image

Had it on an OBD reader. "Major fuel system leak" is what the technician told me.

So it must have been the Filter.

It died this morning. reversed out of a parking, went to Drive. went forward about 20 meters and she died. went to neutral and she started again.

must be the cold i guess.

apart from this, shes purring like a tractor.
