Post subject:  engine code?

so the engine light came on yesterday, i think the code was P044 the guy at autozone said it is usually a loose gas cap or something but not always. i checked my gas cap and it didnt seem really loose, anyone know what vacuum hose to check or where? i think its supposed to be a vacuum leak anyways.

i may just need to reset it i dont remember if it goes away after a while if the problem goes away, or if i need to disconnect the battery and see if it pops up again.

P0442 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak)

"This indicates a fuel vapor leak in the EVAP control system. It means a very small leak has been detected. In fact, the leak can be from a hole as small as 0.04" in diameter. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine."

This site has all the codes:

Common to see a cracked vapor hose at the charcoal canister up above the rear diff behind the gas tank. There is one hose in particular that cracks easily. Mine was replaced a couple years ago when it started setting that code.

Mine pulled the exact same code this week. i'm hoping it's due to the extreme cold we had. I'm gonna reset it and see if it pulls it again. I guess after 150K and 7 years, it's time to look for deteriorated hoses.
