| Post subject: | engine code? |
so the engine light came on yesterday, i think the code was P044 the guy at autozone said it is usually a loose gas cap or something but not always. i checked my gas cap and it didnt seem really loose, anyone know what vacuum hose to check or where? i think its supposed to be a vacuum leak anyways. i may just need to reset it i dont remember if it goes away after a while if the problem goes away, or if i need to disconnect the battery and see if it pops up again. |

P0442 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak) "This indicates a fuel vapor leak in the EVAP control system. It means a very small leak has been detected. In fact, the leak can be from a hole as small as 0.04" in diameter. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine." This site has all the codes: http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/ |

Common to see a cracked vapor hose at the charcoal canister up above the rear diff behind the gas tank. There is one hose in particular that cracks easily. Mine was replaced a couple years ago when it started setting that code. |

Mine pulled the exact same code this week. i'm hoping it's due to the extreme cold we had. I'm gonna reset it and see if it pulls it again. I guess after 150K and 7 years, it's time to look for deteriorated hoses. |
