Thought I would like to see what you folks are hearing about the future of Jeep. Any rumors? Good news or bad? I just heard my local Jeep Dealer and Service Department will be gone as of June. I have a 2006 Liberty CRD that I love but am wondering what the future will bring as far as service and repair parts.

Your warranty is still valid by the US Government if Chrysler does not make it out of bankruptcy. As for your dealer, you are going to have to use another dealer.

Jeep will still be around in one form or another. Think of the Jeep brand like Harleys or better yet Mustangs to Ford. They are part of history, have a strong following. There will be changes as there has been throughout the long run of Jeeps, different types depending on what the world needs at the time. I wouldn't worry. I was out today looking at new ones and will buy if I can find the right price and not worry one bit about the future!

With respect to Jeeps parent Chrysler who knows. The thing about Jeep is that it is valuable! Someone will by it. One of the reasons Im buying a CRD KJ is that when the truck has reached the end of its usefullnes to me I'm going to YANK the drive train out and CRD a Wrangler Rubicon!!!

Dodge/Chrysler/JEEP may need to eliminate one brand..I heard it might be Dodge. I also heard they will keep all 3.. remember they also own Mitsubishi as well as part of Hyundai and KIA.

I think the Chrysler brand itself is the weak link and that's the one that needs to die.

Someone will buy JEEP. Selling JEEP might save Chrysler for a few years but without the JEEP brand I don't think Chrysler will survive.

Hopefully they will not take the JEEP name down with them...I do believe it will survive in one form or another even if the rest of Chrysler.co goes belly up

I honestly don't give it much thought. Mainly because I have no control over what happens. But I do hope Jeep survives, especially as an American owned and built automobile.

It will likely remain American made, but not owned. First of: Chrysler has got that thing with FIAT, GM is in major trouble.

I really really really do not want to see JEEP fall into Ford's hands. Toyota might actualy be a nice fit for JEEP but like i said before, best bet would be Chrysler eliminating itself to save Dodge and JEEP...

Can I have your roofrack?

-------------------------------------

And since the new Grand is based on the Mercedes ML...Who knows.

Daimler may take over JEEP just for the name...and they could really do with a 4x4 line up, their G series is a dinosaur.

(and maybe then we Europeans finally get some decent prices on spares...)

FIAT imo won't mess with the JEEP line up, they want in on the US market with small compact hatchbacks and stuff.

Don't get your panties in a bunch, that is a FIAT 500 on which someone (poorly) photoshopped a JEEP grille.

This is what it really looks like.

I need to come back on my comment that I hoped that Mercedes would buy JEEP...

Saw one of these this morning and if this is a look in the future....no thanks

Mercedes GL.

Doesn't sound promising...

http://money.cnn.com/2009/06/10/news/co ... /index.htm

Quote:
"Marchionne said the Chrysler plants that had been shuttered as a result of the company's bankruptcy process will be back up and running "soon," and the company will focus on developing fuel-efficient vehicles that will "become Chrysler's hallmark going forward."...

..."Much of Chrysler's future success will depend on fuel prices and Americans' appetite for small cars," said Anwyl.

The following posts seems to suggest the 'most likely' path for a Chysler-Fiat line-up:

http://blogs.thecarconnection.com/marty-blog/1020517_chrysler-fiat-we-predict-the-2012-lineup

http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2009/05/what-a-chryslerfiat-lineup-might-look-like.html

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/hot_lists/car_shopping/latest_news_reviews/chrysler_outlines_future_product_plans_resulting_from_fiat_agreement_car_news

I would guess that the Grand Cherokee, the Wrangler (2 & 4-door), and a Fiat Panda rebadged vehicle (to replace the Compass, Patriot and Liberty) is what we will end up with as a "Jeep". :?
