YES - With a shackle / ring, or hook installed in the receiver. |

Yes. Many of us use that for recovery. |

Actually, that is more secure than a tow hook in the back. I have been pulled out using mine and it works fine. |

Smart decision. Which reminds me, don't be afraid to ask questions, regardless if you think they're stupid or not. That's what this forum is for. |

A receiver hitch with pin is all you need for a rear recovery point. Shackles, etc aren't necessary. |

Just don't use the towing ball. It can become ammo for the slingshot. |

Also remember, Synthetic strap > Chain. Chain can quickly become shrapnel. |

durangotang wrote: Until you bend the pin... then you have a fun day ahead of you And that's when durangotang added "portable plasma cutter" to his trail toolbox.... Regarding chain becoming shrapnel, that's why (1) you want good, high tensile, grade 70 chain http://www.mfrexpress.com/cargo-control-binder-chain-c-2_9.html and (2) you want a shear pin somewhere in the system that will shear before the chain will. If you buy a junky chain from the local hardware store, yeah, watch out. |

Oh, before I get in trouble about the chain remark. Do NOT use chain as a snatch strap. You want something elastic for towing with a vehicle. But there's no need to be afraid of good chain in a well set up manual winching system: http://www.bb4wa.com/articles/hilift_jack.html |
