I have an oil light that kicks on at low rpm (600-700) once I get the rpms up to 1400 the light goes off. Checked the oil level and it is fine. I let it idle for 2-3 min with the oil light on and never hear any valves ticking like they are running dry. Is this a Pressure sensor issue or can it be an oil pump? Does the light also tie to the transmission? Could it be the oil pressure light for the auto-trans? Any help would be awesome. It is an early 2002 limited 103,000 miles.

The light is only tied to the engine oil pressure. I had problems with mine coming on at start up and staying on unless I restarted the Jeep at which point it would go out. I would hook up a gauge to the engine and make sure there are no oil pressure problems. It may just be the sending unit or it could be something worse. I checked mine at cold idle and came up with a surprising 80psi:shock: But I would just take the sending unit out which is located right above the oil filter on the 3.7 and hook a gauge up if you can get your hands on one. That is really the only way to ensure there isn't anything more serious going on. Hope it all works out! 8)

Thanks for the tip. I am going to grab my buddy's tester on the way home from work. And also grab a oil pressure switch. All I can find on line and local is a "with gauge" switch. Mine just has the light. Is the "with gauge" the one i want or do i need to look harder?

They are different... I had to search around for a local parts store that carried the Light only sending unit. I finally found one at autozone for $19.99. The plugs on the end are different so they won't work at all. At least the ones they showed me looked nothing like what I had.
