My wife drives our 05 Trail Rated diesel liberty to work daily. If I don't find a way to soften the bone jarring ride its days are numbered. We are both in our 60's and arthiritic and suffer from the deplorable road conditions of northern Illinois. Springs, shocks whatever?

How many miles? If over 35,000 or so the suspension is pretty much trashed/worn out needing to be upgraded .
With a CRD only one choice in springs really so not a lot of options out there due to the weight of it. Has the ride always been to rough for you?
My parents ride in mine all of the time and like the way it rides so not sure what to tell you to do.

New coils/struts up front and coils/shocks in the back will dramatically increase ride quality. Jeep put the cheapest parts in them to roll them off the line...

similar question from IL was asked the other day, i'd go with the OME-MD's

i have the JBA2.5's in the back and they're a bit squishy and would probably produce a rise/fall loping effect on you guys highways which when I lived in IL made my eclipse drive like a go-cart ugh

pair them with rancho or ome or bilsten shocks and it'll ride like a caddy after the ~1000 mile break in period

during the break in it'll be stiff, but not bone jarring, the bone jarring you're experiencing is probably the rear axle hitting the bump stops

Diesels Rule is way closer to the other IL Lost members than I am-----but we all suffer from the same Illinois roads. After the Blagojevich fiasco, there's no $$$ left to fix the craters caused by the snowplows last month. What a mess!

Am taking the advice on the OME's. Had a hunch that they would be the best bet. Thank you all for the info & have a great weekend!

i have to retract what i said about the OME-MD's for the front, i missed the diesel part, i believe there is only one CRD front coil on the OME product parts but it seems most of the CRD guys that use them love them, heck i believe theres even some gassers with CRD front coils

MD's will be fine for the rear, shouldn't sag like the OEMs do/did and should provide a good firm (but not bumpy) but not spongy ride on IL roads

jba is listing the 927's as the CRD-MD's now days

even if he doesn't plan to do steel bumper / winch still use the 790's?

The 927's would also do. But then also get the 947 rear springs. And OME shocks.

But it's a JEEP, so it will stay stiff. It will never be a Cadillac. So maybe you should start looking for another vehicle.

All great advice and I will be redoing the suspension. We have driven Jeeps for 15 years and with only 85,000 miles on the CRD it never occured to me that the suspension was shot! My work truck is a '95 Grand Cherokee V8 with more than 250,000 miles and it still rides pretty good.

Just got a 2006 LIberty CRD yesterday (straight swap for a 1999 F350 crew cab long bed veggie, I love my new turning radius). 119,000 with original shocks. Can someone simplify this thread a bit - I know OEM but what's OME? Better yet, what website do I go to for the best new on/off road shocks? Or are you just saying with the diesel to replace with the original equipment so just go to the dealer? Thanks much.

OME stand for Old Man Emu, it's a brand name. You can find them at boulderbars.com or jeepinbyal.com.
These are going to give you 2-3" of lift though if that's what you want. If just replacing with new springs and no lift, then go to dealer, shocks can be aftermarket.

Yall keep forgetting the folks at Sierra Expeditions they are even members here yes it might not be listed on thier website but they can get them. They are alot cheaper then everyone else they just don't have the N132L. Also OME is ARBs spring and shock devision they are some of the worlds best off road springs. And one of the few high performance supplier for the KJs. But here are a few websites to help you out with your KJ http://liberty.eurekaboy.com/, http://www.sierraexpeditions.com/index.php, http://www.jeepinbyal.com/, http://www.boulderbars.com/, http://www.rocklizardfabrications.com/, http://www.greendieselengineering.com/goPage.do?method=home.

Thanks mightily. Waiting on some Bridgestone Dueler Revos to arrive this week then on to suspension. Does a lift mess up the electronic stability control?

Keep in mind that if you take stock suspension off a CRD and put Old Man Emu 790s on the front, you will get almost 3" of additional ride height out of it. That might not be an issue for you... but for a lot of folks it is. My wife hates trying to get in the Jeep now.

Also, people will argue this back and forth all day long.... but while the OME springs are nice, they are not going to give you a Cadillac kind of ride. Your Jeep will still ride rough, because A) the OMEs are stiffer and B) it changes your suspension geometry. At 94,000 miles, my stock suspension was in great condition and rode really nice. I didn't realize just how good it still was until I dumped $400 into my front end for Emus.

Not saying I hate the Emus at all... I'm just saying they are not the cure to your issue if what you are seeking is a soft ride.

If your looking at soft - make sure you have P type tires and keep them at recommended stock pressure.
