So i did my taxes a couple nights ago and it looks like this is gonna be a great year for my jeep. Im definitly set on getting a Detroit Locker for my rear axle, the confusion comes with swapping the gears.. First of all it took me forever to understand why my 3:73 was considered a higher gear ratio than the 4:10, i didnt get why the big number was a small gear and the small number was the big gear.. but whatever... Iv been running my 265/75's with my stock gear ratio of 3:73 and iv read plenty of post that say it is highly recommened to swap for the 4:10.... Rustys offroad offers a gear combo that swaps the dana 30 and the chrysler 8.25 with new ring and pinions and includes overhaul kits. They offer this in the 4:10 and the 4:56 gear ratio. If a hgher gear is recommended, then why doesnt anyone go to the 4:56??? I dont know nearly enough about this so any advice is appreciated.. again.. im definitly Locking the rear with Detroit and while im at it I wanna swap for new gears but dont know what I need. |

No one makes a 4.56 for the D30A - the pinion shaft is longer than a D30 available gearsets are 3.55, 3.73. 4.10 |

Yes make sure that when you order your gearsets its for a D30A not a D30. |

Dana/Spicer is the only company that makes the gears for the KJ's D30A. |
