so you want a 245/75R16 eh? what does that mean? The first number is the width in milimeters so a 245 is 245 militers wide. The second number is the Aspect Ratio. It is the height of the sidewall as measured in a percent of the width. So the sidewall of your new tire is 75% tall as your tire is wide or 183.75 milimeters tall. The letter following the aspect ratio is the construction of the tire: R: means radial this is the most common tire found today because it handle the best, has longer life then bias ply and is quieter D: This is the mark of a Bias Ply tire. bias ply is usually found on hardcore trail rigs because of their thick sidewalls. They are very noisy compared to radials, don't handle as well, and wear faster then radials... B: this means belted...nobody sells them anymore and I don't have any info on them I believe the belts would come apart causing a premature blowout. The last two digits are you wheel diameter in inches. In this case it is 16 inches. So we have covered the size of the tire now on to ratings: if the size begins with a P it is a passenger vehicles (SUV's, Minivans, Cars) if it is LT it means it's a Light Truck tire (Pickups, SUV's). These tires are designed to carry more weight then a P rated tire. if the tire size begins with a T-its a temporary use spare tire. ok so you have decided that you want an LT245/75R16 and you now know what that means. On every tire using the metric sizing system will be 2 more digits and a letter following the size. The two digits represent the load rating of the tire. For the most parts tires we as average consumers own are in the 70 to 110 ball park. 70 being the lowest load capacity and 110 being the highest. Since the typical stock KJ weighs in around 4600 pounds or so we want a tire in the 85-95 range. The letter represents the speed rating of the tire like so: M 81 mph N 87 mph P 93 mph Q 99 mph R 106 mph S 112 mph T 118 mph U 124 mph H 130 mph V 149 mph W 168 mph Y 186 mph You should end up with something like LT245/75R16 90S If you need more help with tire sizes/ratings either PM me or look at http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/tiretech.jsp Thanks to tirerack for helping me with the load ratings/speed ratings. |

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT KJ TIRES: With stock suspension; a 235/70R16 is the biggest you can go with ZERO rubbing, a 245/70/R16 will fit and will only rub under extreme circumstances like full-lock cornering or cornering on inclines and bumps etc. With 2.5" lift; a 265/75R16 will fit. I have yet to make mine rub under normal circumstances but can make them rub in above conditions. |

I have a stock KJ with the 17" x 7.5" OEM chrome wheels (2005 model). How large a tire can I use without rubbing? |

at 245 in 17" size is not the same as a 245 in 16" size. Be careful with your advice. As far as I know, there is a size that fits well in the Pirelli Scorpions and maybe one other brand and thats it. Not a lot of options for that rim. Definitely no M/T options out the for you. |

Well since a 245/70R 16 fits(for 16" rims)just go ten down on the aspec ratio(the 70 part) for the extra inch for the rim size so 245/60R 17's are pretty much the same size(the width is the same and the height is very close to being the same, maybe a millimeter or two off) as 245/70R 16's. |

nope...that is not true. 245 is the width of the tread in millimeters. 245 millimeters is 245 millimeters regardless of the radius of the wheel. |

When you have a bigger rim its make the overall DIA 1in bigger, or ever how many inches bigger the rim is. A 245/70/17 tire is 1in bigger than a 245/70/16 tire. ![]() |

Well I have just recently purchased a 2003 KJ Limited. I am getting it lifted in three days with a Skyjacker lift 2.5. I wanted to keep my 17 rims but I see that there is some confusion about what tires will fit on those rims. I am also confused about which size tire's to get. I was going to try bfg all terrain 245 75 17 but I am not sure that they will not rub after reading the conversation. I was also thinking of trying silent armour 245 70 17 or a 245 65 17. Does any one here have any advise for me? Also I was wondering how to become a LOST member in Arizona? How do I get a LOST number? |

Hi there, Go ahead and post your tire concerns in the tire and wheel section, it's more active and you'll get a quicker response. (I took off my stock 17's and save them for normal use and got some 16" rims with mtrs for the cool stuff) As far as joining up with the Arizona crew...there are some straight out awesome guys out there. Scroll down to the local club section and you can find the info there. You should pop in there too and introduce yourself! Have fun. ![]() |
