Hello to all,
Just joined this board. Found it while searching for information on egr valves on the crd, 2005. Have had dealer replace the egr the first time. Then purchased my own the next time and have been just cleaning and swapping the valves when the last one clogged. So am in the revolving mode of using one until it clogs and then removing it, cleaning it, and saving it until the other one clogs again. Anyone have any better suggestions for this problem since we have the type fuel we have to run through these engines?

not a crd owner (but i stayed at a holiday inn express) but i read some of the stuff the CRD fellers here discuss out of morbid curiosity i guess

seems to be a mod available to correct the issue you're having

I know the board is a little hard to navigate when you first find us but in the main forum index, scroll down past the KJ/KK section and there is a section exclusively for CRDs where there is a TON.. and i do mean TON.. of CRD information and a bunch of guys who really know their way around these diesels

get with the CRD guys if you have any questions and feel free to use the rest of the forum as well, but the CRD guys are best equipped to help you out with the CRD specific stuff

Just go buy the green diesel enginering tune. It solved my egr valve problem and picked up an extra 2 mpg's. Wishing I bought it years ago.

EGR Problems? I bought a metal gasket and cut it to slide between the connection of the egr and incoming exhaust pipe. T then took out the throttle body valve. This gave me approx 5 more miles per gallon and a check engine light, but runs great. The way the egr works is when you let off the gas pedal, the throttle body closes and the egr valve opens allowing your engine to suck air from the exhaust. With diesels this soots up the egr valve not allowing it to close. Then you loose boost thru your egr into your exhast.

Check your engine crank case vent. This vents into your air intake hose just before the turbo. The intake hose deteriorates and lets small pieces of rubber into your turbo. I suggest running a hose from the crank case vent to under the vehicle. You can buy 4 ply silicone hoses and make your own intake hoses and boost hoses if you want them to last.
